I don’t doubt that to be true, but it’s a mixture of bad coaching and players not adjusting. I don’t put it past gray beard and Saleh to coach that way, but by the second half of the Colts game, how in the fucking world was he still getting trapped?

Attacking defenses have safeguards to fight traps and counters. The defensive tackles need to fight back under the trap to maintain gap integrity and eliminate that same. It’s a dip and rip type technique or you can literally shift your entire body weight into the puller. It sucks but by mid-game you can figure it out.

You'd expect an adjustment from the CS if the team continues to get abused on traps. Maybe Foley just isn't good enough to do what's being asked of him?

The Jets run defense wasn't this bad or undisciplined under Gregg Williams and it was the same DL players sans Rankins, so they need to figure it out. The Jets did hold the Saints to 3.7 YPC if you take out that 44 yard touchdown run from Hill at the end of the game (I know you can't really do this but I'm doing it anyway)

    J.C. Jackson CB Patriots (currently).
Just not sure if we’ll be able to pry him away.

Are you suggesting we re-sign Jarrad Davis?

We have next yr and the one after to build out the team...after that it starts coming apart to pay Becton, Quinnen, Zack, AVT, Moore, etc.

For the next 2 years we have the cap space to go all in. Paid talent at every level. But after that our character completely changes as JD joins the ranks of other GMs and tries to field a team while paying big bucks to 6 or 7 stars on their big, 2nd contracts.

Seattle won a SB with rookies, including Wilson and much of their stellar defense. But soon after, the gutting started and they haven't been close since.

Kroft has been decent. RG, wesco, and brown all need to go though. we need to draft a TE and I wouldn't mind bringing in a vet as well

Kroft can't stay on the field, which is the problem. I'm fine with retaining him as a 3rd on the depth chart but they cannot rely on him. They need to sign a veteran tight end, there's really no excuse not to as there are a bunch of quality options. Sign a veteran TE, draft a developmental guy that is a decent run blocker, and keep Kroft.

RG needs to be replaced, most likely in FA.

Get two. I’d say OJ Howard and Alie-Cox or Njoku. Howard can play in-line TE and I still think he has upside. Aloe-Cox and Njoku two good receiving TE who have been underutilized.

    - Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
    - Keelan Cole
    - Morgan Moses
    - Tyler Kroft
    - Tevin Coleman
    - Mike White
    - Braxton Berrios

None of these guys should break the bank and would leave us with enough cap space to go after some immediate help at TE and 2nd/3rd level defenders.

I'd target Schultz, Conklin, and Njoku at TE.

Then go for starters at LB, CB, and S.

Guys I like at LB: Jayon Brown, Anthony Walker Jr., and Christian Kirksey.
CB: JC Jackson, Donte Jackson, and Carlton Davis.
S: Marcus Williams, Jessie Bates, and Terrell Edmunds

James Crowder is the only receiver that seems to get open in the red zone.

    He is also reasonably priced.

    Why wouldn't we keep him?

I would keep him until he retires. I don't see why he'd want to return.

Maybe its possible (even likely) that he's tired of losing. Same issue we face w/any other of our own FAs that we might want to bring back. There's arguably 28 other teams in the league more successful than NYJ. Granted, - things may certainly be better in 2022 (mostly by default) - so that helps our cause to resign our FAs. But its certainly a factor hindering us from getting better faster. Its also a hinderance for us trying to bring FAs here. I'd love to pry JC Jackson from the Patriots, --- but like it did for CJ Mosley ---- it would likely require the richest CB contract in history, --- and even then -- he might still stay w/the Patriots.

Someone needs to make Joe Douglas mindful that 1) 6 year contract deal or not + 2) only 3 years on the job or not ---- his hold on the GM position could not possibly hinge more on the results from the upcoming FA period & the 2022 draft.
He will be provided EVERYTHING that he needs to move this franchise in a winning direction --- much more than the average GM.
If he cannot make productive use of the cap space $$ & the PLETHORA of draft picks in 2022 ----- I've got no use for him.

Circle New Year's Day 2023 on your calendar, my friends --- that would be the day it could be time to start over,.............AGAIN.

Preach on, ace. And I don't think Joe is doing a terrible job in all aspects, but he is definitely falling down on some of them.

I get the people that defend his track record because he has done some impressive things, but his failures hang his level of aptitude on the job right around average or slightly above (imo), and we aren't competing against average.

We are competing head-to-head with the Patriots who are the gold standard in the NFL. We can't settle for average or above average, we need a winner.

All of this on the job training crap is exhausting.

    100%.

No need to look further than Corey Davis & Carl Lawson. I won't play Monday Morning QB & say that I was opposed to those FA signings -- they sounded good to me. Granted - injuries can happen to anyone -- but I hope Joe Douglas does some GM decision re-evaluation on those decisions (both players w/some injury histories, mind you) & look at the New England Patriots who signed Kendrick Bourne (Robert Salah old team) + Matt Judon === both are healthy + flourishing. Also Trey Hendrickson on the Carl Lawson discussion ----- guy is absolutely lighting it up.

Is it really our bad luck or were there better options available?

When you become an NFL GM --- no one says you should be able to predict the future --- but these kind of high level player personnel decisions are open to retrospect.

You guys do realize that for most decent teams free agents are a small supplementary force not the be-all and end-all of talent acquisition?

We're Jets fans so we are conditioned to look at free agents as this wonderful resource because the team's marketing department has to have something to market and the product on the field is never marketable.

Is he free of any legal trouble or no? Is he upset with coming here? Too many variables to just say yes in a vacuum.

have to assume he has settled his troubles for anyone to want to trade for him - assume he is up for it - would you do it at that price? I would in a heartbeat
