The new guy looked serviceable. Time will tell, although I have to wonder how good he'll be on the longer kicks. That one looked like it barely made it. Now the real question is when can we make a thread like this about the QB.
Agree, he got them in there but they were line drives. Liners means low trajectory and easier to block.
Weak linguine that creaks through the uprights though may well be preferable to Amendola's muscular boomers that miss to the left. As far as NFL players go this guy does look like the rescued him starving out of the orphanage.
3/3 including a 46-yarder is solid, but, as of others have said, those were some weak-looking line drives. Don't think there was enough wind to explain the way those looked? Good start and at least this guy has actually had some success in the NFL before, but he's sure not the answer yet IMO.
What surprises me is why we got guys like Amendola and Kessman before instead of this dude. I don't claim to be a great kicker talent evaluator, but both of these guys STUNK in College. I didn't understand this when it was signed. This guy at least had a good College career and was even solid in one season for the Bears before injury forced him to miss last year. So, at least some potential is there, unlike the other two. Unless you need your kicker to be a good back-up punter.
The kicks looked weak as shit but wasn’t it pretty windy at the stadium? Maybe I’m wrong. Kicking low liners could’ve been by design.
I think it could have been wind, they did mention pockets of swirling wind when Payton called the timeout before the end of quarter kickoff.
Yes, the windburn on my face can confirm the wind. Still a little worrisome. It wasn't CRAZY wind but definitely windy. Some of his kicks were getting dragged out to sea during pregame warmups. Missed quite a few. As long as he keeps hitting the ones that matter I don't care what they look like.
Good point. As I wasn't there, I didn't think of that, but should have because NO coach Payton made made some decisions based on the wind.
He’ll be the kicker for the last 4 games he’ll hit the gimmes and struggle long distance. This needs to be solved long term this offseason….
But they go across the goal post. There is no category on how pretty a kick is. Now, Justin Turner, his kicks are great straight down the middle and his range is off the charts.
