Where's the "it's been a little more than half of his first season trying to coach a roster full of guys that should be on a practice squad... so I don't really have a strong opinion one way or the other because there's nowhere near enough evidence to form an educated opinion" option?
I’d say indifferent. I didn’t want him as the head coach, and I don’t like what he chose to do with the all-rookie coaching staff. But the team seems to adjust pretty well for the most part after half time. The problem with those adjustments is that you have to wonder if they make good adjustments or if the teams step off the gas after we’re down 3 scores. Seems like a typical 3-year and done coordinator hire that will go be a defensive coordinator on a playoff team when we’re done stressing him the fuck out. He’s alright though. Should be better, could be much worse at this point.
I was counting how many starting players were missing on Sunday. I stopped at 13 starters. The talent may not be great and is compromised of mostly 1st and 2nd year players but it so much worse because of injuries. The only comparable injury year to this I can think of was 2005. I don't know what is going on with the injuries but it is pretty awful to see.
This is the most likely scenario and I'd say it has less than 50% to do with Saleh's actual ability to be a head coach.
He's not winning me over but we're in the damned if you do and damned if you don't territory. If they fire the guy now, any realistic candidates will probably be just as bad or worse.
I would like to know who made the call believing that starting ZW week 1 with no veteran QB on the roster was the proper course of action? Was that a Saleh, "I got this" or heavily influenced by JD? Obviously it was a major miscalculation and caused a lot of issues to this point. He was handed a very poor roster and at least the first few weeks he and/or Ulbrich schemed their way to some respectible performances, now both sides of the ball is a complete shitshow. Saleh has obvious deficiences managing the clock and his timeout usage is suspect at best. He def didn't help himself choosing such inexperienced coordinators. Sadly, we'll never know how much impact Knapp might've had on ZW's development, but seeing how lost he is right now, it might not have made a difference. Injuries cannot be ignored either - basically whatever can go wrong, has gone wrong
I like him and I think they made the right hire, but this team is so deprived of playmakers on both sides of the ball it's hard to win games. Yeah, the coaching could be better, especially with run game discipline.
I am disappointed so far, but there still is time. I will cut some slack cause he is new to it. I did that with Bowles, never got better!!! Hope not same! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I checked the unfavorable box, but the correct word should be disappointed. In the beginning of the season, I thought the Jets strength would be the defense and it would only get better with Saleh, former DC as HC. That hasn't happened, in fact the defense looks worse than last year. I figured the offense would take some time to gel, but here again, we went out and got some talent. I thought with the defense keeping the scores low, we could win games even if the offense wasn't functioning at full steam. That hasn't happened either. The offense has looked confused and in disarray most of the time. I don't want anyone fired, Saleh needs time to right the ship, but the Jets must show improvement next year or I will be calling for his head.
There should be a "too early to tell" option. I want to like him but his pressers are so dippy and generic that it makes me lose confidence in him. What he says isn't what I see on the field.
My problem with Robert Saleh is he acts like it's fine to be (3-10). It is a learning process. The guys will get better and win championships. Blah Blah. I disagree. They are still getting paid millions of dollars. Maybe they are one of the worst rosters in the league. Maybe they are the youngest. Still, try to win a few more games. Look a little more upset when you don't. That part is odd to me. The rest I am fine with. Just like Zach Wilson, a lot of my opinion on Saleh will be about Year 2.
Lets take a look.... Car - Game over first half NE1- Game over first half Den - Shut out, game over 1Q Tn- Win Atl- Game over first half Bye which they obviously lost because... NE - gave up 54, game was over before it kicked off Cin - win Indy - Game over first half Buf - Game over first half Mia - Lost to Tua LOL Phl - Had this as an auto loss because we have never, nor will ever beat them No - We were never in this game at all Going forward Mia - expect another non competitive loss Jax - Don't know what to expect, would not be shocked if this is the breakout game for Trevor Lawrence, our d is the cure for all that ills and is so bad it is comical at times TB - LOL Buf - LOL 3-14 Lack of talent is one thing. Being totally unprepared and out hustled is another. This team has not come to play football 10 out of 13 times this season so far. What reason could anyone possibly have for saying this CS is going to improve and turn things around? They've already botched the backup QB thing, botched the Mims thing in the early season, and have looked like they have no idea what they are doing on most game days. For some unknown reason, their players are injured more than any other NFL team. Sad thing is we cannot fire a HC after 1 season, that would look ridiculous so we are stuck with Salala through at least next year.
Not sure how anyone could select favorable right now. At best he's a "too early to tell". I voted unfavorable because his supposed strong suit, defense, is by far our biggest weakness. The team gets blown out all the time which is on coaching. He doesn't manage the clock especially well and the team doesn't play hard. We commit a lot of penalties and are undisciplined in general.
I like the guy and want him to succeed but how he is seeing improvement in yesterdays shitshow I have no idea. I'd rather he said I need to watch the tape.
Right now I have to go with too early to tell. I definitely liked the hire at the time, but I'm not liking what I'm seeing in a lot of games so far. I really hope he doesn't turn out to be in over his head.
Yeah that’s a good point. Even if you’re holding back on any harsh judgement, it’s hard to imagine anyone could possibly be happy with this or think favorably. Didn’t we have our worst stretch of points allowed in consecutive games in franchise history earlier in the year?
