With all of the decisions our front office has madw I would say AVT is one of the better ones I have seen recently.

Nobody is coming to the Jets unless we pay top dollar and guarantees.

We're like a leper around the NFL because we're bad on a consistent basis.

This also means that people coming to the Jets are 90% here for the money which explains how we have wasted so much moola over the last 5 years.

I'd stop signing free agents other than for depth at this point. I'd sign ok backups to backup level contracts and expect them to back up the young players I was building around.

Yes, we can all agree that AVT is a disappointment and we’d be better off with the extra picks.

    It's not about that.

It's about this team having a crappy roster from top to bottom.

You fix that by making the 23 and those two 3rd round picks.

Of course AVT looks great, although the OL as a whole is poor. And the LB's suck. And the safeties are subpar. And we didn't find the Edge again.

But go ahead and worship at the altar of AVT. Just remember that if he's really good in a few years he's going to want to be a FLG (Franchise Left Guard) and break all kinds of salary and cap records in the process. He'll have us over a barrel because he'll be one of the few truly talented players on the roster. And those phantom 3rd round picks will be one of the reasons that is true.

I used to love you on the politics board but I can’t get behind you on this one. I’m not gonna cry if he turns into an all pro that we have to pay and I value that more than a later first and 2 dart throws.

Yea, paying top talent top dollar is a problem we should definitely avoid.

I disagree, his football posts are equally entertaining as his politics posts.

I honestly don't remember @Br4d being a regular in the politics forum. Are you sure you got the right guy?

I got shit on for questioning his football posts so I'll stay out of that. He does seem a hair morose though.

Strange hill to die on is this. We have an actual top quality player it seems but rather have a potential zungia and Davis with what else we drafted.

He’s not eligible as he’s only a sophomore. But he will almost certainly a top 3 pick when he comes out. He might be the best player in CFB already and he’s supposedly an awesome kid off the field.

If all we can do with 3rd round picks is Zuniga and Davis then having a top quality player just doesn't matter. We'll stink.

The point of getting Joe Douglas was to have a guy who could make good 3rd round picks. Instead we got another Terry Bradway who thinks he is a genius with the trade ups and keeps trading away the later picks, which BTW doesn't really matter because his later picks tend to stink just like Bradways.

The difference between the two of them is that Bradway inherited Bill Parcell's team and it took him 3 or or 4 years to break it down. JD inherited trash and things broke down immediately.

Except he’s accumulated what? 7 additional picks between the Jamal Adams, Sam Darnold (two firsts and two seconds)and Mims trade down? Which is exactly why you can with one trade up that only cost you two third round picks.

Hence my comment in the other thread about you ignoring the surrounding circumstances as to why this trade wasn’t that big of a deal. If we had 5 picks next year it would be. We almost have 5 in the top 40-45.

We have a crap roster right now.

The Jets had no picks to give away to promote players.

In a year you will understand this.

We took a philosophy that failed in the 00's when we started with a good roster and applied it to the 20's with a crap roster. No way we're getting out of this whole.

Don’t patronize me. We’ve been discussing football here for too long together for that crap. I have the foresight to understand the roster makeup and how devoid of talent it is.

Then you shouldn't be arguing that it was ok to trade two quality draft picks to leverage the 23 into a "sure thing".

First off there's no sure thing. Secondly a bad roster can't go looking for one with a couple of prime picks as the kicker.

Even if you hit on the guy you have two phantoms out there that will never play for you.

The Jets odds on an All-Pro went up with the trade up. The Jets odds on 3 solid players, even 2 solid players went way down. The Jets odds on getting nothing out of the 3 picks went way up also cuz if something happens to AVT they got squat.
