I would encourage you all to listen to Saleh in this press conference. This is the first time I've seen him genuinely fucking pissed at this team:
It’s about time. It shouldn’t take til the 8th loss in 10 games to be fucking pissed about losing though.
If that's Xerxes when he's pissed, no wonder the team is sleepwalking every Sunday. This isn't a learning curve, its a learning Mountain. "They have to learn how not to lose". Doesn't that apply to the CS too???
Well ...the Future is Now So young old or in between they gotta close out winnable games When Brian Kelly sees Notre Dame lagging he tells them straight up "you will play well for this team or you are not playing"
Nothing is going to change. He's in over his head and is just as much, if not moreso, at fault as the players. He's also probably heard that people want him to show more emotion, so he's making that effort. Nothing will change, though.
This Texans game is going to be very interesting in assessing the state of our team. They might be the WORST team remaining on our schedule. I'm actually trying to be a half full guy--if we win it probably means Zach did something good because this defense is putrid right now. If we lose--we will probably be getting a top 2 pick and we can really get a premier pass rusher.
The most disturbing thing about yesterday's fiasco wasn't so much the loss, but the crowd was almost 50% dolphin fans. They were actually changing "Lets Go Dolphins" at one point. The Jets have no homefield advantage whatsoever. Even the Refs disrespect the Jets until it becomes impossible not to throw the flag. Fan apathy is setting in and that should be a wakeup call for this Organization. If they don't turn shit around PDQ, its gonna start to resemble the Meadowlands back in the day with empty sections and fans with bags over their heads. There were tons of empty seats yesterday on all levels. Fans are getting fed up with the rebuilds, the excuses, the fuck ups and the CS. Can't keep selling the future and expect fans to buy into it. There will always be some, but for the most part fans are starting the disconnect process. Time is running out Woody, JD and Rob..
I'm not writing him off yet because I saw some of this coming and wanted to give him a chance anyway. I think he's a smart guy with a ton of passion for what he's doing and that takes you pretty far in life if you aren't undermined. He gets a season and a half from me before I start expecting something to happen to save this mess.
It’s very different when you are the man in charge. It takes some time for a HC to learn that he can’t worry about guys feelings, it’s a business and wins are the only things that count. I respect the fact that he treats guys with respect and dignity but that should only be the foundation for demanding they live up to their end of the bargain. When he starts realizing that being friends with players or his assistants is only going to get him so far he will start kicking guys in the ass. It’s not easy to make that transition but it seems he’s starting to get it. There will be guys who don’t like to be called out, those are the guys you don’t want on the team. However there will be guys who have no problem being held accountable and those are the guys you want on the team. There will be a natural sifting of those who are just collecting a paycheck and those who are invested in truly winning. When Saleh starts to demand performance from everyone, I believe you will see this team move forward.
There was a great interview with Brian Kelly, he admitted he was a raging lunatic in his early days as a HC, but he has also grown to be patient only to a certain point. While he doesn’t get as angry he still gets his point across by immediately sitting players and holding them accountable. He also said he still tries to teach players what’s expected and how he wants thing done, but if they don’t produce he finds someone who can.
There was a massive section of Dolphins in the 300s in the corner of the endzone. They were chanting Let's Go Dolphins the entire game.
Imagine if Capt. Smith changed course 1hr earlier. He would have missed that iceberg. JD and Saleh still have time, but its running out quickly.
I actually thought the Jets game plan was pretty decent yesterday. Not sure why we seemed to completely abandon the screen game against a heavy blitzing defense, but other wise, the way they were going to try to win seemed like the correct one. What I question about Saleh and the staff is why do we allow so many free running receivers all the time? And why do they insist on playing that cover 3, corners on an island defense when these kids are so young. It’s also on the coaching staff that the defensive line has underperformed as badly as they have. I wasn’t big on Saleh but one of the things I was most excited about was seeing him potentially unlock Quinnen Williams to take the next step, especially considering they added Rankins and had JFM already. They’ve all been pretty bad and Mosley has been an awful tackler the past month, after having a great start to the season.
Todd Bowles fired his staff in order to save his job, make no mistake about it, when it’s time to choose between staff and lively hood Saleh will also have no problems making changes. However unlike Mac, who was giving Bowles garbage players, JD is doing a better job of giving Saleh pieces to work with.
Q has been very good. He just doesn’t play enough. I’m honestly over the whole line change thing they do. He’s still playing only 60% of the snaps, and the whole starting line is that way. Either this is by design or something else. I’d rather push Q, Rank, JFM a little more…and stop doing the hockey rotation…there’s times where the whole backup DLine is in the game…I’d like more mix and match, and for the starters to play 70-80% of snaps.
Defensive line goes through full rotations. It's either all starters or all backups out there on the DL, it's very strange because our backup DL is trash. JFM is playing in a 5T because of injuries at edge; he's much better as a 3T. Quinnen has been pretty good though.
