No I didn’t. I said most of the players on those teams were drafted by the organization. Of course the good organizations use free agency. But what makes a team good or bad is how they draft.

True but they had the core of a good team there. Those FA pushed them to a whole new level. They werent garbage

It’s become so bad that a patient fan like me, who would never dream about judging a coach this early, is genuinely wondering if Saleh deserves a 2nd season. I mean the guy hasn’t shown a thing. Name one positive. This 2nd half is huge for Saleh imo. And honestly for Douglas too since he hired him.

Saleh and his staff certainly deserve to be under scrutiny as their body of work has underwhelmed in almost every category. We're told almost everyday that one day, Saleh and his staff will suddenly put it all together and the Jet roster will blossom into a perennial contender. Frankly, I don't think I'll live long enough to see that happen. There is NO substitute for experience especially in the coaching ranks.

As a wise man once said: "Potential means you haven't done anything yet". True for players... True for coaches as well. I agree this 2nd half is crucial for Saleh & Co. to establish some credibility. They need to start holding players accountable and, gasp, bench unproductive, underachieving players starting with VanRotten. They also need to start protecting their QBs by pointing out, vividly, how many times our QB's get smashed without the benefit of a RTP call. Time for Saleh to drop the Sphinx routine and show us he actually does have a pair of gonads instead of marshmellows.

Saleh and his staff appear to be in it over their heads. Countless examples; no timeout to avoid a penalty on 4th and a foot;6th round rookie CB and backup covering Diggs one on one,no half time adjustments so the Bills look like their running a 7 on 7 drill coming out of halftime. You almost have to give him two years, otherwise the organization will never be able to hire an attractive candidate, but if and I think when they do,no more newbies. They need to hire an experienced HC,either with college or NFL experience

We've hardly been draft kings the last few years and the few hits we have registered haven't been of the all-pro types in the positions of greatest impact. The FA's we got to try address that went down in training camp and since then I honestly didn't expect our season to be much different then this from that point on.

Put all the guys we currently have on IR back on the field and healthy and I'd expect close games but otherwise I look at our roster and I'm expecting a beatdown every Sunday.

I'd rather we'd accept that as a team and fanbase and treat these games as practice sessions+. If we're down by 2-3 scores then don't force Zach/Mike to keep throwing to try catch-up but just keep your run/pass ratio to what you'd prefer, run your trick plays, practice your fancy blitzes, go for it on fourth down regardless of field position, etc..

they were actually a really good team who was held back by a really bad QB. getting brady and moving on from winston alone made them a contender. then they added in a top WR and top TE to it for not much at all

I agree with most of what you said but disagree with the bold.

The Jets have historically been a team that always gives coaches multiple years. What has that gotten us? A bunch of bad coaches who were all retained longer than they should've. I'm all for firing Saleh after this season if the team doesn't improve. What message would that send other candidates? Just that you need to do well ASAP or you're gone, I don't think that's a bad message. It's a low bar anyway, a coach could come in and win 6 games and we'd be thrilled. We're not asking for a miracle here.

Right there is a solid question. The great thing about Saleh as a DC is that he had such fire. He'd get all fired up and run up and down the sideline. It feels like he doesn't want to show that side of himself anymore once he became a HC. I expected him to be that same guy who got fired up, battled and ownhed the losses. Dan Campbell has become a bit of a joke with his big tears in his eyes after another Lions loss, but at least you you can tell he cares.

Nothing is ever what you expect it to be with the Jets. I don't know anyone who sticks to their team like us, but it's extremely frustrating to watch.

I remember watching a game last year or the season before and Gase was on the bench drawing something up while the rest of the team was actually watching the game unfold. I'm sure we were losing at the time. But the point is, he was trying to do something. Saleh sits up there with a stoic look, making sure his expression doesn't change. It doesn't make him look controlled, it makes him look disengaged. That spreads like a nonchalant cloud of no-give-a-shit-ness. Any now it's infected the whole roster.

    Rant over.

Did he think that that kind of personality wouldn't work as HC? If so, he made a big mistake.

This isn't true, either, cman. JD tried to sign Thuney, and the Titan's TE that signed with the Patriots, and other topnotch FAs, but they had no desires to play on the Jets. Many just used the Jets to drive up their contracts with other teams. Have you forgotten about that or the crap that Mac gave huge FA contracts to who still have dead money on the cap? C'mon guy, you've been around a long time, and you know better than this. You're just letting your frustration cloud your vision.

Now we have this guy. Jesus christ. This was after the anthem. And after they beat the Titans. And they were dismantled by the Pats. I swear to god that if the Fish put up 45 against us this week.... I don't even know what to say. But it'll be serious.

Remember when half the board went gah gah for the Saleh hire due to how fired up he'd get on the sidelines?

I remember because I thought it was ridiculous then and we're now seeing why. Emotion is cheap. Anyone can get fired up, who cares? It didn't indicate anything about his coaching aptitude and we're seeing that now.

Our owners and GM were fooled by the life coach during interviews and now we're paying the price. Our front office is not full of critical thinkers, it's full of morons who get fooled by whoever the best salesman in the HC pool is every 2-3 years.

So, the Jets as an destination is now the equivalent of rural West Texas. Its impossible to get A-list talent to play here for any amount of money? JD I'd like to think has a better eye for talent than Mac did. He has a larger pocketbook too. Evidently he doesn't have the salesmanship talent that Mac had as the Jets sucked then and they suck now but Mac did manage to get several big name guys to sign here in Bell and Mosely. He's batting .500 whereas JD only seems interested in bargains. Nice having tons of cap space but its worthless if you can't buy quality talent with it.
