This was a discussion I was having with some work buddies, and I'd like to hear what the group here think. What was the best MCU movie that was NOT an "Avengers" movie? In other words, what was the best MCU film, if you could not chose any of the following:
    • The Avengers
    • Avengers: Age of Ultron
    • Avengers: Infinity War
    • Avengers: Endgame

For me it's a toss up between Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok. It was cathartic seeing Kiwi-style humour being presented to an international audience.

Yep. Thor: Ragnarok was crazy, best of the bunch that isn't an Avengers movie as far as I'm concerned, although both of the GotG movies and the first Iron Man were great.

My vote goes to Captain America: The First Avenger. This was an origin story done right, taking enough freedoms from the comic book origin to make the story fresh and new. The scene when Captain America returns to the camp with the prisoners from the Hydra base was just flat out awesome.

I agree with Guardians and Ragnorak.
The other 2 I put up there Black Panther, was a huge fan of the comics and have all the original issues as they came out and Ant Man, which I though just like Ragnorak was hilarious at times.

I agree with Ragnarok, Guardians, Ant-Man and I'll throw Spider-Man: Homecoming in as well.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I'm pretty much all Marvel'd out after watching a million movies over the past decade culminating in Endgame Part II which was kind of lame.

They're giving you a break by making a bunch of generic type movies like Shang-Chi, Black Widow, Thor's Girlfriend and Eternals that I don't even think they expect to be that popular.

Xmen no longer part of the MCU? I will be going to see "The Eternals". I have a feeling they will remind me a bit of the Inhumans..

Every review I have read has ripped it to shreds. TBH, the moment I heard Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie in the MCU I knew it was doomed to failure. Those two are hot but also as one dimensional as it gets. No way that was a fit.

Both are in my top three, but I have the original Iron Man at the top.

    Thor Ragnarok
    GOTG
    GOTG 2
    Civil War
    Winter Soldier
    Iron Man

Those are pretty much the only ones that I ever rewatch. My wife loves GOTG 1 and 2.

Since I'm absolute dork with the MCU, I made a tier list of all the movies and shows a while back so I'll share it. After the last couple episodes of What If... I'd definitely move that up to the C tier.

To answer OPs question, definitely Thor Ragnarok or Winter Soldier. The fight choreography in that movie was insane.

While Loki was a fun show, it had way too much exposition for me to really enjoy it. Wandavision (imo) was a much better show. Just enough mystery to keep you guessing every episode. What If definitely closed strong, although week to week it wasn't that special.

Best overall MCU film, I think it is easily Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It is basically the MCU's The Dark Knight. At least to me. I re-watched it recently and it still holds up.

I liked eternals a lot. I thought gemma Chan's character was as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.
