My understanding is that he is a licensed doctor. I even think he's the licensed physician for his sons high school. The article below and many others reference him as a licensed physician: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.newsobserver.com/sports/article255488636.html
What’s not to like about this move? At the very least, with all these injuries, the Jets could use more medical staff. But it’s probably more about injury prevention, as the fewer snaps GVR correlates to fewer chances for Jets QBs to get kneecapped or pancaked.
Im glad we had this pickup. That said i think edoga did well against the bengals. He has a lot of haters here. We may actually have a deep oline in the near future.
As a french canadian myself, I know him a lot. He is considered by all the smartest, most generous and most respected athletes in the province all sports considered (hockey, football, etc). He is indeed a licencied doctors, he practice at the hospital during the off-season. He will take his free time to support local food bank or charity organisation. During the pandemic he thought he would be more useful helping first care worker in elderly home so he volunteered to help them during the covid crisis. I don't know if he will be a great jets football wise but he is an incredible human being that's for sure. It's impossible to hate the guy.
Trey has been great this year - probably the only rookie G who can give AVT a run for his money. Still though I am not sure why they would give up on a good player at the premium position for a scrub TE like Dan Brown. Good move for the Jets on paper, but something just doesn't make sense here. What if Trey gets hurt? KC surely wants to protect Mahomes. Given what we gave up, a good move by JD (can't really go wrong with this one), but I am not having a high hope for LDT at this time.
The only thing that makes sense to me is that maybe one of KC's STers went down with a serious injury or their STs needed upgrading. I know they were trying to clear cap space for this season and next, but as another poster said, probably had to accept a player in return as JD wasn't willing to give up a draft pick or wanted to clear some cap space here. As far as I'm concerned, at least on the surface, he fleeced yet another team in a trade. It gives us an option at RG and improves the depth. Unless his skills have totally eroded in a year-and-a-half, or he is out of shape, I think he will be starting within a game or two and will solidify the OL.
I could give two sh*** if the guy is a Doctor or not. I care if he can still play and play better at guard than GVT.
Any trade you make to bring depth to the o line and don’t give anything up is a good trade. White will need protection for the next decade , teams are going to get frustrated like the bengals did and take liberties on a star QB. Saleh has to be better about getting on the refs because we have a commodity to protect now.
He’s licensed as a Doctor but he hasn’t done a residency yet (a specialty) so he can’t really practice medicine.
Its a great move. We gave up nothing for him! He's a smart guy that comes from a winning team that has been in the superbowl the last 2 years. All upside no downside.
Yeah, I've seen that, which shares the same language as an AP article that shows up in a few other places. I'm going on the basis of an older article from April 2020 in Sports Illustrated where he was quoted as saying he was unlicensed and was trying to find out what he could do to help. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif moves to the COVID-19 front line - Sports Illustrated "Soon into the crisis I started to ask how I could help. I reached out to the health ministry and public health authorities, but found out that I fell into a gray area where they didn’t know what to do with me, because I don’t have a license to practice—yet. In the interim, officials briefed me on an almost daily basis, and I used my platform and credentials to relay their messages." Another piece I read says that he is now enrolled at a Masters in Public Health program at Harvard, but I've seen nothing that says he has finished any residency or become licensed. He's also only thirty and I've seen nothing to indicate he has any kids at all, much less playing football in high school. There's also this piece which seems like it would be updated often. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif | The Canadian Encyclopedia
in most states u can graduate med school and sit for the 5th year medical boards (step 3) while doing that 5th year internship. the residency is polish for a boarded specialty, which is necessary these days. if u pass the step 3 u can apply for general medicine practice license in most states. Disclaimer - this is off the top of the head as i haven't looked at this in years. if there are any folks on board that have or will have experience with this please give updated info if necessary.
On the opening kickoff of the opening game in 2020 Brown was flagged for holding which moved the ball from the jets 37 back to the jets 9. Kinda set the tone for the 2020 season.
two thoughts: NFL will most likely call this Doctor to testify for the NFL when they get sued again for brain injuries. NFL: "See? We have an actual DOCTOR playing the game, how dangerous can it possibly be????" Second, anyone know anything about that new medical office JD started here for the Jets players when he came in, with doctors, therapists, meditation, holistic, all that stuff??? It never gets talked about and it was supposed to be a great addition to the complex. Anyone know anything?
