What makes a great NFL QB is consistency. All of these guys are professionals and are capable of great single game performances, but what makes the elite QB's elite is that they can do it week in and week out. If you find a QB who can do that, they are priceless.
Yes they overvalue the position. No I would not pay Baker 30-40m a year that would be hilarious if the Browns did that. I think Cowboys paying Dak what they did was crazy too, they're having a good season but lets see how it works out in the long run. Mike White, Geno, Siemian & Cooper Rush might win games for you but they won't win a SuperBowl. I think teams undervalue the line positions (particularly OL) which goes hand in hand with overvaluing skill positions (incl QB) when you have a salary cap. Build yourself a good-great OL and all of a sudden your QB and RB's look a hell of a lot better.
they have no choice.....its the most complex position in sports and the most important position in a brutal game. if any of u deplorables became an owner - you would HAVE to overvalue the position to be competitive. the key word is position, not player. if you overvalue the player thats when it will bite your ass.
Paying Baker 30-40M a year may be a mistake (unless you expect the cap to go up) because Baker is a league average starter. Though a Browns team with Baker making that money is still better than a team without a franchise QB, like the Jets have been all these years. But if you have a top QB, you have to pay the guy because even with him making big bucks, the only better situation would be having a top guy who isn't making big bucks. And unless lightning strikes twice for you, you're gonna be searching for that for years if not decades.
