Haven't watched Texans, and don't know how good their line is. There are many factors involved, like how much time does OL give the QB. If receivers can't get open and QB keeps standing for long, he will get sacked, no matter how good line is. That's why PFF rankings while not a bible, give some decent idea, because it looks at these factors, and some of them are evident, like Zach clearly getting a lot more time lately than in the beginning of the season.

As far as rookies, these are Cs end of second round. No way we would have picked them. Be realistic. It's Teven Jenkins or Dickerson more than likely. We dodged the bullet with this trade. And the Gs in the 3d and 4th round are also not even improvements over GVR. The trade so far looks really good.

Darnold is learning a whole new offense as he had to do twice already with the Jets.

He showed flashes, especially in his third season before winning three games in a row this year.

The only time Wilson looked OK this year was when Carolina rolled out their prevent defense against us when they had the game in the bag.

We all want to believe Wilson is the better player but I am just not seeing it right now.

Darnold showed flashes, especially in his third year? What are you talking about? His third year was the worst year of his career statistically.

How on earth do we still have people defending Darnold?

No one was going to succeed at QB last year here.
Gase and Douglas made sure of that.

Darnold is now gone, but I don’t think the situation at QB is any better sadly.
We are on to ruining the next, right down to a terrible Flacco return.

    Meant second year.

He looked pretty good when he came back from having Mono.

That was with Richie Anderson and no Adam Gase.

But Sam is now failing in his 4th year, under his 3d coach, and a 2nd team. If there is one thing that's obvious is that we made the right decision to trade him.

I don’t believe it was obvious choice at all.

we ruined Darnold here, and maybe that’s indelible.
But it’s also possible surrounding him with a haul of talent via draft picks wouldve put him and the team in a better situation.

Instead we are on to ruining the next QB with bad coaching and surrounding talent, and already got him injured.
You sure we better off? Maybe, but sure don’t feel like it. Feels like we repeating exactly the same thing.
Maybe we can net a third rounder for Wilson in the future too.

Edit, At least Flaccos here to mentor him. We haven’t tried that before.

Honestly, washed up Flacco right now I think is still better than Sam. Interestingly, Sam right now has QBR of 77.5, which right at his career average. He is the same guy as before. Flacco did better than him last year. We got a 2nd and a 4th for Sam - which is a great value, plus it costed Panthers 20 mil to pick up his option. We are greedy, myself included, and are worried about 6th round pick for Flacco, who costs next to nothing - look how much more we got for Sam, who is a much costlier player, who is not any better than Flacco.

As far as whether Zach will be better, and whether Flacco's second stint here will be better for Zach and the Jets, it remains to be seen. The jury is still out. With Sam, it feels like the book has been written at this point - he is who he is, and that's not FQB.

Flacco about to literally be the worst starting QB in the NFL.
He’s horrible. Completely checked out and disinterested in playing imo.
You thought he was good last year?
Please I’d take Darnold plus a haul of picks any day.

Flacco could potentially cost us a 5th based on playing time.
    It’s wasteful.

I thought he was better than Sam last year, not good. And unless he regressed, he should be better than Sam now. Likely it will be 6th since Zach will be back soon, and White probably starts this Sunday to complete his evaluation. I suspect they brought Flacco as a mentor, like a Josh McCown type, who can also play some. Timing may be right now, unlike last year, when he was a recent starter and then back-up to League MVP Jackson. I think after a year behind Sam, and 3d stringer in Philly behind Hurts and Minshew, Flacco will not have starting aspirations like before and may embrace his role. His role is to be a mentor back-up, and we have a 6h round pick riding on it.

I personally don't think too much of this move, but let's see what happens. This does not negate a 100% correct decision to get rid of Sam, which has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt by his same old Sam performance and benching in Carolina.

Oh queue the "we ruined Darnold" argument.

Funny he goes to Carolina and a lot of people on here starts the whole "look how good he is away from the Jets...soj giving away a QB and he shines.....we clearly were ruining his career and holding him back...."

Now he's got 8 INT and was benched last game.

Jets fans now "we ruined Sam Darnold from the beginning...if it wasn't for us, Sam Darnold would have been great..."

    LOL

His interception by the goal line against the Giants was so Sam-like. It brought back fond memories.

Kudos to JD for getting a 2nd and a 4th for him. Not as good as the raping he put on Seattle for Adams, but it was a damn good trade.

It was an awesome trade, especially now that Darnold has been benched and they are reportedly in the trade talks for Deshaun Watson.

It must really be hard for some to come to terms with the idea that Darnold was never good

And even harder to give Douglas props for just about anything.

If the Panthers trade for Watson, what happens to Sam? Would Houston want him and his salary as part of the trade?

Douglas is here for the rest of this year and next. He totally stripped down this roster after Maccagnan and should get a chance to fully build it back up using the assets he's acquired.

Picking JFM up off of the waiver wire, trading Jamal Adams for 2 1st's and change, drafting 1st round OL in back-to-back drafts, drafting WR's in the 2nd in back-to-back drafts, Bryce Hall, both Michael Carters, trading Sam for a 2nd, 4th and 6th.

He doesn't have a plan?? Really? You can say his plan has not worked out yet but if you don't see a trend in his drafting then you're just being intentionally obtuse. He's used premium draft assets to build up the offense and at least 3 of those guys look very good to solid.

Now we're looking at having 4 top 45-50 picks and you guys want to fire the man who got us all of those? This roster IS better than it was when he took over in 2019. We all knew the 7-9 record in 2019 was a mirage so why are we in retrospect acting like that team was good? Clearly this season has not gone as we had hoped but that doesn't mean that we should just fire everybody. We knew there would be growing pains having a rookie QB, HC, OC, etc. Everyone needs to take a breath and realize that we were never going anywhere of note this year, or don't, I'm not your mother and I'm not going to tell you how you should feel.

JD has not been as bad as some on this board are making him out to be. Has he been perfect? Absolutely not but he's been a whole lot better than anything we've had recently.

JD has one more offseason to show some progress or else his ass will be on fire.

Wilson looks awful but Darnold looks just as bad which is more alarming for a player in his fourth year.

Everyone predicted a Tannehill-like resurgence when he got away from Adam Gase and the Panthers are reportedly looking to give away more draft capital to get DeShaun Watson and punt on the two picks they wasted on Darnold.

I'm not sure how people still think Darnold is some sort of answer. His best bet is to find a great situation like Case Keenum did in 2017 with the Vikings and have a good journeyman year or two. He was never as good as Tannehill was in Miami so hoping for that sort of upside is unrealistic.

Like I said, its Joe Douglas just giving his old boss a favor.

He might possibly be worried about his job so he wants to make sure he has a place to land. Philly had too many bum QBs in the room, so he helped them out. From a Jets standpoint there was no reason to make that trade, and especially no reason to allow the Eagles to put conditions on it

well its important to remember that the decision was not 1 for 1. Wilson or Darnold. It was Wilson or Darnold and the 2nd overall pick. Yeah, Darnold is struggling in Carolina the last 2 weeks but the Jets could have Kyle Pitts or Ja'Marr Chase right now
