the current make-up of the human body is not biologically designed to live past 90-100.....cumulative cellular waste material and mutations, and the inability to repair and clear these damages, is the main cause.

advanced molecular pharmacology is certainly making inroads with isolated cancer treatments and this should continue moving forward - thus having a positive effect on prolonging survival in those patients.

and yes we hear stories about the occasional 105, 110 year old - thats awesome and their body has been the exception then the rule.

but its the physiologic degradation, over time, of all types of cells and their surrounding matrix.

until our cells evolve the ability to counteract these harmful effects, most of us aren't touching the biblical longevity.

The only people that want to live to 100 are 99 right now.

The only thing that needs to be resolved to let people live past 120 is the cell division replication error problem.

Fighting off senescence is best achieved by replacing old cells with new ones via division.

When billions of cells divide there are inevitable replication errors. This is where naturally occurring cancer comes from. It's also where part of the aging process comes from as errors lead to other less efficient copies. The other main component of the aging process is in the stupid choices that people make every day - like overexposure to the sun, alcohol and processed sugar consumption, lack of exercise and general obesity. Then there are the man-made carcinogens that will override virtually any virtuous sets of anti-aging behaviors.

So the natural side of aging is an inevitable side effect of the body trying to keep itself going by replacing old cells with new ones. To combat this the body starts making fewer and fewer new cells as you age - it's the only way to prevent errors in cell replication that result in effects worse than natural aging.

Many companies are working on approaches to solving this issue now. Artificial means to encourage more accurate cell replication. Ways to make cell replication less necessary at the scale it now occurs. Cancer treatments that make the inevitable replication errors more correctable, etc.

The people who can afford it and who are disciplined about how they live will be living lifespans significantly longer than we do. This will happen unless our civilization collapses for some reason and it might well happen any way if the right pockets of knowledge survive and are protected.

The human lifespan has been on a nearly unbroken trajectory towards greater longevity for all of the 400 years we can track really well, since the Enlightenment. Many of the improvements have been in the form of cultural changes and technological advances. There's no reason to believe that is going to stop now.

"Pain management clinics" aka methadone clinics are just government sponsored dealers. They have no interest in getting people off of painkillers but just dealers that keep you on the stuff until you die.
