How dare you interrupt popular perception with fact-based reality!! Damn you all to hell!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAAAAAA!!!
Notice... 7 of those top 9 teams made the playoffs... But we're the only ones getting the 'weak schedule' wrap...
Well, when you're really good, you issue LOSSES to your opponents. Let's take away division opponents. Jets 10 opponents outside the division had 70 wins and 90 losses, or 0.438. We only beat 1 team with a winning record where most of the criticism is comign from. It was the Pats.
Part of the reason that the opposition of the best teams have poor overall winning percentages is they had to play that good team. Allow me to explain. SD, for example, had the 3rd weakest schedule. However their excellent record contributed to that. If the Chargers had gone 2-14, instead of 14-2, their opposition winning percentage would have been over .500. Reporters and fans would then be complaining about what a tough schedule they had.
What pisses me off is with the exception of Cleveland and Oakland Miami (a preseason SB pick), New England and Buffalo played the same exact schedule.
A better way to look at it is Strength of victory; http://www.nfl.com/standings/conference Of the playoff teams, The Jets are the lowest at .400 The best was Indy As a matter of fact the Jets were the lowest in the AFC.
The entire schedule debate should be moot due to the NFC being such a joke... If the rest of the NFL was held to the standard the Jets were the NFC teams should've gone out back and shot themselves... I mean you hear the experts talk about how bad the NFC is but you never here them discount the Saints/Bears/Cowboys/Eagles for having the benefit of playing 12 games in it...
Just shows the Jets beat the teams they were supposed to beat. For instance, the only team they were supposed to beat but didn't (well Buffalo could be considered here, but that one was at least close) was Cleveland. If they would have beat Cleveland, the # would have been lower, basically punishing them for winning
I always knew that Chicago and New Orleans had a weak schedule but didnt expect it from San Diego or Baltimore. I respect Tennessee so much more recently
And the reason they don't get criticized for it is that they won 14 and 13 games, respectively, which seems fair to me. The point that this year NFC teams all had a weaker schedule because of playing each other is true, and even if it isn't being called "weak schedule," I think those playoff teams have gotten plenty of criticism as a result.
