I have always thought jets were targeting Van Jefferson when they traded down. Who I wanted! When the rams chose him surprisingly 2-3 spots before, jets took next best wr. Also there was reason mims “slipped” in the draft. From my view, mims looks to have a lot of upside. There is reason he is at bottom of depth chart. I don’t think it is potential, maybe rift with new coaching staff. Effort level. Etc. I went to scrimmage and a couple of practices during camp, mims looked like he was going through the motions. Not good sign. If you ask me he’s got one foot out the door. So he is trending in wrong direction. He is more likely to be cut or traded, than to get starting job at this point,

Van Jefferson was not a better prospect than Mims. He was a great route runner, but not very fast. He had already maxed his potential and reached his ceiling. Mims hasn't.

This would be a good reason why he's at the bottom of the depth chart.

That’s debatable. But sure mims may have greater upside for mid-late second rounder. But apparently the jets don’t agree with you! BTW, Jefferson has made a couple of long TD plays this year…

Mims would need to gain literally 30+ pounds to be the average weight of an NFL tight end lol

    Denzel Mims weighs 207 pounds

    Kelce - 260
    Waller - 240
    Kittle - 248
    Andrews - 256
    Pitts - 240
    Higbee - 250
    Hockenson - 250

Agree mims doesn’t strike me as TE material. Not physical, nasty, or big enough,

It honestly looks like he's just going through the motions even in that video Hughes just tweeted. Look at the effort level of the two guys who run their routes before Mims and then look at Mims'.

I thought the exact same thing.

Looks like everything he does is at a snails pace or with zero effort

I don't know. It is hard to tell from that clip. He is definitely in the dog house.

The moment he got out of prison he would trip over his baby giraffe legs and take a spill. 2-4 weeks.

That's not what Saleh has said!!! He said that Mims is definitely in their plans and a very talented player. He has also praised him several times for how hard he's working and the excellent practices that he's been having. Perhaps early in camp, coming off the food poisoning when he wasn't back to full strength is when you saw him.

Also, when one is learning a new and complex offense and having to think too much, players don't tend to go full out.

I think what Braxton says at the 1:03 mark is telling. This offense is predicated on being where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there.

Coach speak, not going to throw him under the bus! Bottom line, obviously he is not part of his plan, he is currently at bottom (last receiver) of depth chart for reason more than not knowing the offense. As I said earlier, trending in wrong direction, he is closer to being cut/traded than starting. That could change, and I am rooting for him (high upside), but let’s be realistic at this point and time, not happening, It is what it is.

And you can't do that with receivers that are late out of their cuts because they swing their feet like they're on a pendulum.

That's all good but "this offense" is averaging a whopping 10 points per game.

Players ultimately score the points. LaFleur isn't some genius with a brand new offense nobody knows about. Drop the ego and adjust your precious offense to accommodate a talented player, especially when you have so few talented players on your offense.

Being in love with your system so much you'll keep a Denzel Mims on the bench so you can roll out 4 bum TEs and Braxton Berrios every week and lose 24-10 is not good coaching

The kid is a play maker no question. Cole needs to be sat and Denzel the 4th WR.
