1. Zac Wilson. This kid has it. I know it was not ideal but he did as good as he could have. 2. Vera Tucker. Solid LG. Didn’t seem him beat once. 3. Fant at LT and Moses at RT. We actually did this and it seemed to be more effective than Becton and Fant. it’s going to be a long year but we got our QB. Unfortunately Becton, who may be better suited at RG in the future. Or even, the D will need work.
I thought there was a remote possibility that we traded Becton before the season started and ended up with this as our OTs and they are probably better suited for the outside zone. I'd also list JFM as a positive, he was the only one I could see getting consistent penetration. I wish we had 4 of him to rotate on the outside. Bryce Hall wasn't tragic either.
they did. They outplayed the panthers in the 2nd half. Need to clean up the offensive line…figure out the run game as well, switch up being so run heavy on first downs. Fought until the end though and Wilson I felt played well despite pressure.
It was almost night/day between the two combinations of tackles. I'm not an OL guru of sorts, I know a little about a little, but, I think you are right with the potential scheme fit scenario. Makes a lot of sense after seeing how things looked with the before and after with the Becton Injury. The poor offseason, etc...
The Jets punting game kept the Panthers off the board early on which is probably the #1 factor in this not being a runaway loss.
The Good: our kicker is pretty good as a punter. The Bad: we still don't know if we've solved our FG kicking issues yet.
Fant was bad before moving to LT, he kept sliding inside and left a free runner a few times at Wilson it seemed. I felt the interior moreso right side was dreadful but I’d have to look at the game again and what others will say about that.
When Becton comes back, I’d really consider making him a mailer RG. He just is too big and. It nimble enough for LT. will consider Evan Neal at LT int eh draft
The line stabilized once he moved though. Obviously a lot of variables on the "why" things were bad In the first half, opposed to "why" they were much better In the second half. It's not a good look though when reports all summer have indicated a fairly significant struggle with Becton, most of the offseason. The line looked like shit when he was In there. Then, he gets hurt, and the line starts looking like a competent line? I know It's probably not that simple either but It should be noted at the very least. It's not a good look overall for Becton.
It was nice to see Mims make a big play to set up the second TD. If he can contribute, it'll make our WR group that much better.
The good was watching Zach Wilson maintain complete composure and put on a hell of a showing in the second half. Turnovers are going to happen, he's a rookie, but even with that turnover and the CONSTANT pressure, he played extremely well and looked poised the entire game. This kid looks good man
If they can maintain the level of play they showed in the 2nd half, they may start being competitive, which is step one in rebuilding. I think Panthers had 3 or 4 rookie starters on defense. What will happen when the Jets OL goes up against a professional defense? Following the Jets is not for the faint of heart.
I loved the pick based on size but he just doesn’t seem to have the meanness / movement that a LT needs. He could Never catch a pass from Testaverde like Jumbo
