As of today after the cut down to 53 all of JD draft picks year 2020 and 2021 are still on the team. OK. I forgot QB James Morgan was cut.
Hold up, I don't see Chad Pennington and Santana Moss on the team. I did double check my 53. You sure they made it?
OK. I screwed up the date by only 20 years. I fixed it, thanks for catching my error. STILL JD loves his draft picks. I am not sure if all of them deserve to be on the final 53. Of course they may not be after a few days.
Gotta give the kids a chance to play when you're rebuilding to see who can make the cut. One less preseason game makes evaluating the talent all that more difficult.
Not surprising. You always get rid of the “former guys” trash. I’m more concerned about how the 2020 draft class is shaping up. Or not.
This is not at all surprising considering they have only been in the NFL for 2 years, at most. Guys like Perrine are kept over guys like Josh Adams because they are still VERY young and require more time before fully evaluating. This is a conversation to have again in 2-4 years from now. How many of the 2020 and 2021 draft picks are still on the team then and how many are starters or producing regularly. That will be the tell.
There were rumors that NE was looking at James Morgan in the 2020 draft. Now that Mac Jones has been named the starter and Cam cut, wouldn't surprise me if NE scoops up Morgan and puts him on the 53 as BUQB to Mac. Only, of course, if NE really DID like Morgan coming out. Two rookies! Only NE would try this.
I don't know how that works. Since he was under contract already, I don't know if he'd be paid his previous contract, or if getting cut voids that contract, and he'd only get PS pay. I posted a couple of links from Sporting News a day or two ago that spoke about the rules for PSs. At the end of those articles there is a breakdown of what the pay is for PSs based on years of service, etc.
I wasn't thrilled with the Perine, Morgan, and Zuniga picks last year. There was no pick this year that I didn't like, but admittedly, I didn't know much about many of our day 3 picks.
too early to tell but honestly not great 1) becton - looks like a stud. great pick 2-4) Mims - 5th WR on the depth chart. already supplanted by a FA journeyman and a 2nd round rookie, davis - looked rough as a rookie, supplanted by a FA journeyman and injured too, Zuniga, always hurt hasn't played a snap or impressed anyone really. Perine - 4th on the depth chart and looked awful so far. clark - hasn't seen a snap and on IR now, morgan - just released likely on the PS to start his 2nd season. Right now it's just becton. I don't count round 5 or lower as you don't expect much out of them. those are hail mary picks. Mann is a good punter in the 6th though and hall looks good for a 5th round CB.
▪︎ Two 1st round picks. ▪︎ Two 2nd round picks. ▪︎ One 3rd round pick. ▪︎ Two 4th round picks. = 7 picks within the first rounds alone (that's nuts). + Top 5 and A+ available Salary Cap Space come 2022's Free Agency. Compete and make the Playoffs here in 2021 and heading into 2022 we'll then be considered as true AFC SB Contenders.
Bryce Hall looks to be a good pick, the Morgan pick was terrible, and in Zuniga he picked the wrong guy
well he cut his losses and moved on. it happens. lets hope this class is better. wilson and moore already seem like studs and hopefully a few others emerge
Morgan actually chose to go to the Panthers rather than stay on the Jet PS. I guess he figures better to be on the Panther PS.
