No I'm not. I'm concerned about the offensive line as a whole, not Becton. Becton is not in any different shape than he was last season. Last season he faced some of the best pass rushers in the league and performed at an incredibly high level. He has played in two games this preseason and in both, he has performed well. Yes, against backups but I do trust Saleh when he states that it is a very vanilla blocking scheme right now and they are working on specific techniques. It was argued that Becton should have made the pro bowl last year. Am I worried that a potential pro bowl lineman is allegedly getting "beaten" in training camp? No. And I think this out of shape argument is complete horseshit. Yesterday everyone jumped to the conclusion that he was throwing up because he's out of shape. Turns out he is being evaluated for a concussion. He finished the 2020 season weighing 380lbs. He is now 363. So at 380 he was effective and in shape but at 363 he's now out of shape and a slob? I don't get this logic
He’s surely a fan of Becton. He also critiqued the bears OLine saying they have to do better in a video he did yesterday as well so it’s not like it’s all roses by Baldy.
Carl Lawson used to beat him every day, all day. I was told it was because Lawson, a 5 year veteran with 0 pro bowls, suddenly became really, really good and that Becton wasn't performing poorly. Ok I guess...But then the OC even acknowledged Becton was struggling in camp. "going through some things..." Gee I wonder what that means... Then the Eagles guys were beating him badly yesterday, Becton puked and left the field. If you aren't concerned, you should be. I sure as hell am
I've stopped putting too much stock into training camp reports, which is where all the criticism stems from at the moment. There are just too many things the Jets could be experimenting with in practice that could lead to the OL getting beaten badly. Until they put the pads on and play a meaningful game, judgement should be withheld.
Oh you're back on the "Lawson is not very good" train. Got it. This is a pointless back and forth. I'll let the games speak for themselves. If I am wrong, I will eat crow. Getting worked up over training camp tweets about Becton getting beat is ridiculous, in my opinion. Especially from a guy who is graded as one of the best left tackles in the game and just came off a great rookie season.
The possible concussion is what concerns me the most with Becton. How much time will he miss and will he be rusty when he returns?
Lawson, the same guy who has had single digit sacks every year of his career that is talked about like Lawrence Taylor around here...
I thought why didn't he then take out the #25 and clear the space right up, so nice to see that somebody else said the same.
There is merit to this topic. Our line isn't that great, especially in the middle. JD has brought in about 8 middle linemen over the last two years and they have been sub par almost to a man. When were lucky their "serviceable". Then he used a laughable amount of draft capital to take AVT. He has just done an amateur job here and its still shaky. His tackles have been a little better but if Becton is exposed this season then that becomes sub par (and Becton finds his way to the training room every week). Moses was good signing but for only for one year. Fant has been solid'ish some games. There is some serious question marks about our future at tackle, maybe even both positions. Overall, after two drafts/FA periods it feels like our line is going to be sub par, with next to no depth. And this is after two drafts where we had great capital and two FA periods where we had top money to spend. IMO this is concerning. We used a lot to take a QB and we should have had a solid line for him to develop behind. When JD took over we pretty much needed 5 new starters. In two years he's drafted only two linemen and signed a lot of meat fodder. A quality O-line should have been our first priority from the beginning of this rebuild. I love JD the deal maker. Not super wild about JD the team builder. Like others have said we still have to reserve judgement until the regular season. But this is not a good sign and I'm not going to say, "I'm not worried until I see our QB getting laid out in the regular season". IMO this is a larger problem then the D line. An offense is only as good as the guys up front.
People need to chill about worrying over some practice tweets. Its insane. All these guys who report this stuff want to do his create hysteria and clicks. Let's see what happens in the game before we start freaking out.
You are way overrating how good Becton was last season. He had a decent season for a rookie, that's it. He was nowhere near a pro bowl level.
Lawson's pressure numbers were through the roof last season. Didn't convert a huge % of them into sacks but he was extremely disruptive. I think the problem is that when you take an LT 11th overall you expect him to do well even against the best rushers in the league.
