Bummer about Carl. Curry was a calculated risk. I'm confident the GM and HC will brain storm how they want to proceed with the DL in light of these injuries. I know they want to keep players fresh and rotate them in and out while keeping full pressure. Hopefully our young guys step up to it, may be picking up reinforcements during the final cut, or even a reasonable vet for a year. I'm not in favor of trading draft picks at all for a pass rusher, not this year. May be a player swap plus money in position of strength but not if it impacts Wilsons chances to be successful. IMO, First priority is to keep Wilson out of harms way. Second priority is to see what we have with the young guys and give them playing time, third priority is to fill marginal areas better our chances to compete successfully.
well right now DE is looking real bad. curry and lawson are all done for the season. losing 2 players at 1 position we weren't deep at is never good. right now the starters are blair and JFM with huff and hamilcar as the backups. zuniga is out until week 3 and hasn't show much at all too. it's time to add someone. maybe take a flyer on beasley for the vet minimum
I think you have 2nd and 3rd priority mixed up. You think we need to hand young guys playing time...just because what, they're young? How about filling out the roster, and forcing the young guys to earn playing time? That's how it should be. As of right now we have a huge glaring hole on Defense. Not addressing a hole that big would the type of negligence we haven't seen since, well since 2020. Let's stop doing that.
Very different players, but it wasn't an upgrade at all. Anderson is a much more complete player than Curry at this stage in their respective careers, and will see a lot of playing time in NE. Curry was only going to be depth and a role player here.
Agreed, losing Curry only hurts because we lost Lawson, and didn't have much edge depth to begin with. Have to bring someone else in at this point.
They really need to just get reinforcements. Yeah the Chandler Jones type would be exciting, but would that complete a super bowl picture? If the answer is “obviously not”, giving up significant draft capital for that is crazy. Just get guys to rotate in to keep everybody fresh.
Couldn’t disagree more, Anderson isn’t Anderson is meh at stopping the run and rushing the passer. Curry was still a legit weapon as a pass rusher. Look up his pressure rates.
Curry is 33, and banged up. maybe at one point in his career he was a better player, but those days are gone. Anderson has always been excellent against the run. A little meh pass rushing, but he’s not an edge rusher either. He’s going to see a lot of work in NE. Far from an upgrade. More of a cost savings downgrade really. it’s not a great comparison tho being 2 different positions. I’d say Rankins was brought in to fill gaps from Leonard Williams and Henry Anderson.
His pressure rate was in the 94th percentile last year. He can still play. And again - they need a situational pass rusher more than a run stopper. He took a risk w his age and it didn’t pay off but you’re wrong about him being old and washed.
And yeah - not even sure why you are comparing them, as I said from the jump lol totally diff positions and players. Anderson is more well rounded but Curry is BY FAR indisputably a better pass rusher lol
The other thing is this weakness at edge will also expose our weakness at CB….with no pressure, QBs will be able to exploit our you g secondary gonna be a tough sled on D I’m afraid
This is awful. Luckily he’s going to make a full recovery. Hopefully he’s in Jet green for the comeback.
Maybe I'm jaded, but this statement conveys that he acted on the basis of nyj doctors and therefore he gets the contract money plus he can sue for malpractice if it turns out there were better treatments, etc. I don't think we've heard the end of this but whatever, he's gone.
