Posted this in the training camp thread where this tweet was posted: Meanwhile Saleh said after the game yesterday they were gonna roll with who they have on the roster to replace Lawson. Someone is lying. Go hard for Chandler Jones and have a dominant duo next year? Or play it safe and go for a guy like Fowler who played for Ulbrich and will be a FA when Lawson is (hopefully) back? Edit: I know both are FA next year but you’re obviously not trading for Jones without giving him a new deal and I don’t think we’re in position to do that.
I think we should go hard after Jones and hope Lawson comes back healthy. Two torn knee injuries and a torn Achilles could hurt his entire career. That's a hard gamble. If Lawson comes back healthy and we trade for Chandler Jones. Jesus
I think if chandler could be had for mid late round pick, JD will pull the trigger, we really need a pass rusher. Any semblance of good will be tied to that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
After watching the defense get pushed around by the GB 2's, it's tempting to say "Open the vault and sign a stud pass rusher!". But who? And will they stay healthy and play every snap? There's a reason anyone still available is still available. And we're not one player away from making the playoffs, let alone the SB. It might be painful, so painful that I eventually change my mind about it, but at this point I say go with what you have and hope somebody (or somebodies) step up.
I think Schefter's post is meant to make people assume the Jets are looking for a starter. It might just be that they are looking for a better than average depth guy because they are down a pass rusher now and maybe they don't see that guy on the roster already, and the bones of the FA scrap heap are picked clean of good fits at the spot.
Chandler Jones. He's not available but has requested a trade. He was not happy with the contract offer they gave him and wants out
If schefter reporting this, then JD is actively pursuing bringing someone in. I think we will bring in a FA, or trade. But who will it be? What kind of investment will we make? I could envision anything from a flyer (depth or reclamation project) to and plunge on big time edge rusher. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Jones has a big number, 31 coming off bicep surgery and wasn’t lighting it up before the injury. I’m not sure that’s the ideal target.
Saleh said in the post game presser that the CS would focus on coaching up the guys they have and Joe would focus on other options (paraphrased). This rumor is obviously the latter.
I'm going to go against the grain on this one boys-- This is a move the Magic Mike would have made, spend a higher pick on a guy like Jones that will be a 1-2 year player. I wouldn't give up a 2nd for Von Miller right now. This is a team that is 3 years away from competing--we need all that draft capital to have flexibility in the upcoming years, It sucks we lost Lawson, but we need to see what we have in our younger pieces. Unless it was for a steal, don't do it. I might do a 5th rounder or later for a guy like Jones--maybe a 3 or 4th for a guy who's younger...but a team normally doesn't let a young pass rusher go for cheap. I would only spend a higher pick for an investment in Wilson--like a blue chip Guard, TE or WR.
I tend to agree here. Jones just doesn’t make much sense unless you’re getting him for dirt cheap… which you aren’t. We aren’t going to pay two pass rushers huge money when one is coming off a potentially career-altering injury and the other will be 32 next season.
Wait to see what the move is before you call it a Magic Mike move. Wanting to upgrade the pass rusher position after losing Lawson is common sense. That is really all that Schefter said. We will see what move Joe Douglas makes. This is literally his job. He should be looking for ways to acquire a pass rusher after losing his #1 guy for the season.
That was the season before. Last year before the injury he had 1 sack in 5 games and a low pressure rate.
Cards may want a 1st rounder and I wouldn't do it for that. Not even a 2nd rounder, I'd do 3rd round pick
