That was great. Thanks for posting. Xfactor puts out some really great content. This is the kind of indepth analysis that we can only get from independent Jets media and never will get from a beat writer.
As Lawson's sack totals pile up this camp, the first thought is "this guys been an absolutely great FA signing" but the second thought is "wow, I hope he isn't showing the whole league how to beat Mekhi" Is he making him better or is he exposing him? I guess if Mekhi isn't worried about it, I shouldn't be.
They do but we're probably not going to find too many players worth a squat until the 31st when teams try to stash players on their PS.
I loved the emphasis here on making ordinary plays and being able to efficiently run the offense well. WOW plays make highlight reels and certainly Zach is capable of making many of those but making the ordinary plays keeps the chains moving and wins games. Darnold made occasional WOW plays but he could not consistently make the ordinary plays. This article not only has me excited about Zach but excited about the approach of the CS.
Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence (DT) didn't play. Amazing how Williams is mentioned as a legitimate pass rusher now. From reports and the limited video it seems like the big boy is having trouble with Lawson + edge rushers that bend the edge. Gotta get those pads down and into deeper sets.
More than just Leonard Williams. Looks like the only group that saw action against 1s was the D-Line which was smart or else Glennon might have died in MetLife.
It’s where he struggled last year. I’m not sure how many rushers he will see as fast as Lawson though. We’ll see how it goes but not too concerned. He’ll improve and they will scheme for the better rushers.
The title is very misleading. Here is the full article. It is a fluff piece about a Giant's rookie playing his 1st game and his one tackle on a run play. https://news.yahoo.com/giants-azeez-ojulari-breaks-down-145509937.html
A LOT of people now talking about how poised Wilson looked in an NFL offense. This weekend will be fun to see again!
Becton needs considerable improvement on speed rushers and its been hard for many Jet fans to acknowledge. The big guy is a bulldozer moving forward but not so great moving sideways. When it was discussed last week the main fan solution seemed to be, "well we don't face that many speed rushers this season". That isn't a solution to his issue. Its also not true. The Bills and the Dolphins grabbed the two most versatile speed rushers in round 1 last draft. Its going to be an issue this season and two drives against 2nd stringers doesn't mean its been solved. Lawson should help him improve a little but IMO he needs to really sharpen is his lateral foot speed via lateral drills. I'd pull him off the field for 10 minutes each practice to work on, and build up, his lateral quickness. They're fundamental drills usually done more in mini camp, but they can really improve that part of his game. I don't think just scrimmaging will be enough. Either way I hope it gets tightened down.
I agree completely about improving his abilities against a pass rush like Lawson, but I am not getting too hung up on this concern. In 2020, Becton was the second highest rated tackle in his draft class. He faced guys like Joey Bosa, Myles Garrett, Nick Bosa, Von Miller, JJ Watt, etc.
