Of course. My point was that if he does not take a decent step forward this year then he's in trouble.

Indications are that he's having a bad camp, although I'll be honest in that I don't really pay too close attention to good camps/bad camps. We've seen superstars in camp not make the team here and vice versa. It's quite difficult to really accurately assess how players are doing at 3/4's speed in mostly shorts and shells with limited hitting.

So I think it's understandable to see the Jet fan being anxious about this guy reportedly struggling entering year two.

Wasn’t a fan of drafting Mims at all, as he doesn’t help a young QB develop or assist the OL and QB via indirect pass protection, but Douglas drafted the anti-Mims in Elijah this year so it’s all good

JD would do well to get a 4th round pick for Mims at this point

His trade value will only decline with each passing year, so if he isn’t going to get playing time, it’s better to unload him now

The only time a 2nd year player with the kind of raw talent/measurables that Mims has gets cut is because of things like: not being a hard worker, beating up their girlfriend, doing a 100 while being drunk and having a kid in the car.

And even in those circumstances it's a long shot to be cut.

Mims doesn't have any of the above issues and will be here this year at the minimum. More than likely he'll be here for his entire rookie contract.

Saleh basically said the narrative doesn’t fit with whats going on in camp in regards to Mims. Only ones who haven’t run with the 2’s and 3’s are Davis, Cole and Crowder. Mims got some run with the 1’s today.

With his yards after catch ability and blocking down field he is going to do well in this offense.

The media that doesn't know any better is all that's fueling the narrative that he could be cut/traded, etc.

I think most of us will agree that this is good news:
New York Jets not looking to move WR Denzel Mims, sources tell Tony Pauline

Jets WR Denzel Mims was rumored to be a trade or cut candidate, but PFN Chief Draft Analyst and NFL Insider Tony Pauline hears differently.

Sources tell PFN Chief Draft Analyst and NFL Insider Tony Pauline that the New York Jets are not looking to trade or cut WR Denzel Mims. The team drafted Mims with the 59th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Baylor product amassed nearly 3,000 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns during his time in Waco.

Denzel Mims is not a cut or trade candidate for the New York Jets
There’s a multitude of reasons as to why the Jets are keeping Mims around. He’s a favorite of the front office and general manager Joe Douglas, who used Day 2 draft capital on the Baylor receiver.

Mims has been absent for most of the offseason (we’ll get to that), but despite his absence, sources on hand tell Pauline that Mims has been a quick study and has been the best receiver at camp in the past four days alongside Elijah Moore.

Yeah as I pointed out people used to give receivers 3 years. Now if you're not Justin Jefferson you're a bust. I do think Mims rookie year was wasted by Gase so I think he has legit excuse here. He probably needs this year to actually progress into a good receiver. If he doesn't look good by year 3 then I say we should probably move on but give him this year and half of next season to show what he can do.

The people shitting on Mims either didn't want him to begin with or are anti-Douglas. It's absurd to give up on a guy with such raw ability and such little playing time.

I trust the beat writers to be objective more than Saleh.

Yes, there's Conor Rodgers or something like that. You have to subscribe and pay to hear his thoughts and opinions.

I usually like him as well, although he has some bizarre takes at times. I totally don't get him on this one.

That's your first mistake. It's obvious that most of the beat writers don't know jack shit about the game, how the CS views the players, or how to evaluate players/talent.

Looks like the type of story a GM plants to maximize the trade value of somebody on the block before he’s shipped out of town

Any time a coach takes questions from the media he is more interested in sending a message to his team than answering the questions accurately.

I like Mims and feel like he could be a hit… but I’d still trade him and a 2nd for CJ Henderson.

I'm pretty comfortable with the corners we have right now. Not sure what is going on with CJ Henderson but JV is probably right, there's some Urban Meyer craziness to factor in there.

The pass rush is going to give these young corners a lot of chances to make plays on the ball, those plays are real confidence boosters for young players.

I read or heard that he really is not having a bad camp when he actually gets snaps and there could be something else going on. Motivation?
