I recall that Becton's weakness in college was in pass protection. Lawson is a really good edge rusher so I'll chalk Becton's struggles up to Lawson being good moreso than Becton being bad, but you still don't want your alleged franchise LT getting roasted constantly in camp no matter how good the opposing rusher is. I really think Becton needs to lose more weight, most of the footage I've seen of him getting beaten is via speed rushing and him being too slow-footed to properly position himself to block. Becton is more than big enough to be a good LT but all that size means nothing if you can't get it in front of rushers. Regarding Wilson - it wouldn't mean much if he was lighting it up in camp and it doesn't mean much that he's struggling. Throw him to the wolves and if he's the real deal he'll get better as all the real deals do.
I fully expect a lot more struggles for Wilson moving forward. Lear from your mistakes early and often. I like the way Zach is been throw to the wolfs with a relentless pass rush on each and every play. Some is his own indecision, most is that he is a rookie with growing pains and the game isn't slowing down yet, some that he is overthinking it and not trusting his first reads, and some that the OL has a ways to go, but sure as shit looks to me that the CS is showing Wilson no mercy out there, let him suck thru a fire hose now till the first season game. Obviously they think he can handle the pressure that goes with it and not worried about the optics of his struggles. Which is great. Better see now what he will see on game day. I just wish he could steal a page from the GOAT and let the ball rip within the first 2-3 seconds by trusting his instincts or just throw it away.
A breath of fresh air. A CS that knows their shit. Most of the tweeter observations are based on what they see, without knowing fuck all what the intention of the throw or the play was from a training and learning perspective, which is, to find out what he can do well and get away with and what will eat his lunch. The only thing that all these practices tell me is they will give Zach far more than he can handle in training camp to accelerate his learning, and then dial back accordingly based on what suits him best for the near term.
That is a very good point, they really are throwing the kitchen sink at him with the pass rush, I am more worried that the OL keeps collapsing than Wilson's struggles tbh. Great to see that we may have picked up a guy on the up in Lawson, he looks like he could be set for a monster year, can't wait to see it happen.
Saleh and crew going with the iron sharpens iron mentality. Lawson has been WRECKING this offense. DLine is DEEP. Lawson is wrecking without Q in there. Once Q steps onto the field, yikes. JFM, Huff have flashed. This front is gonna be disruptive as hell.
If this is the case, I love it. Fuck the bullshit noise and focus on getting better in areas of weakness. Learn the system. Make the mistakes. Improve.
I think a lot of Wilson's struggles so far stem from this right here. Seems like every time it's reported he throws a pick or sails a pass, it's because Lawson, JFM, etc. beat their man and were in his face. Hopefully the game slows down for him at some point but I can't get that upset by it in his 2nd week of TC.
Absolutely not. Expecting better at this point is fools gold. The same occurs with all rookies. It is VERY rare to have a guy that deals 2 weeks into practice and is unaffected by a rush. It's a learning curve that many on here are having trouble swallowing.
Exactly, it's hard to glean a lot from this OL/DL battle so far. We'll just have to wait and see how both units stack up against some other teams.
This is exactly why I'm not even remotely worried about Zach yet. He's gonna figure things out sooner or later and I'm betting on sooner.
I just can't imagine Elijah Moore not getting starter level reps in Week 1. With how much he's impressed so far in camp, I think it'll be almost impossible for the CS to keep him off the field.
Becton should be on the right side. I dont care what anyone tries to say, it is alarming to me. Lawson has been a decent player in this league but never great and certainly never Lawrence Taylor-like, which is what he is playing like in these practices against Becton
