I can't disagree with you. As great an honor that it is, every year that Joe klecko is overlooked I lose a little respect for the hall.
I still can't believe Klecko hasn't gotten in yet. Pearson finally got in after a long wait so maybe there is hope for Joe.
I completely disagree. His Dallas Cowboys defenses always held him back or else he'd have multiple SBs. Tony Romo = 97.1 Regular Season QB Rating (9th All-Time). Tony Romo = 93.0 Playoffs QB Rating (13th All-Time). Higher than Tom Brady's. Tony Romo = 78-49 (61.4%). 34,183 passing yards. 248 TDs/117 INTs 65.3% completion percentage. Tony Romo was awesome man and gets blamed because of awful Dallas D's. I personally believe he's HOF worthy.
I don't know man. There are plenty of HOF 1st ballot players in the HOF with 0 rings. Tony Romo came from a small college program, came into the league undrafted and became one of the most elite NFL QBs All-Time (top 15 QB Rating All-Time). If you go back and look at Dallas Cowboys overall team Defense stats you'll realize how he overcame NFL odds and should've been 100 games below .500. From undrafted QB and into the HOF. I believe he's deserving of 1st ballot.
IMO if Romo makes the HOF cut, then u have to put in Ken Anderson of cinci, maybe Brian Sipe, and QB's of that caliber. Do you agree? Gotta edit this: I think Pennington has to go in if u put Romo in. Pennington > Romo IMO.
No. I don't agree. Tony Romo has one of the highest QB Ratings of All-Time both regular season and postseason. I loved Pennington too (2002) but after his injuries he was a dink and dunk QB who finished with a barely above .500 record. And guys like Ken Anderson doesn't even come close to the statistical production of Tony Romo (in terms of average yards, wins and TDs per season etc).
Sure, after injuries Chad wasn't the same but Romo's last few years were injury riddled too. The game was different in Romo's time vs. Anderson's. I look at it by imagining that Romo was on the Bengals at that time or Anderson was on the cowboys--how much different would the result be? I think Anderson is better on the cowboys than Romo. Chad is better than Romo on the 'boys and Romo does nothing to improve the NYJ over Chad IMO. Contrast this with Peyton Manning on the 'boys or NYJ and you see why he is HOF as he makes both teams SB contenders.
Hester should go in first ballot. As for romo, to put him in the hall puts him on the same level as Marino and Kelly as qbs with no rings to make it. Are you mentioning romo with in the same breath as those two? No way anyone can answer yes to that honestly.
Agreed. Romo will probably get in one day, but first ballot? Naw. Marino and Kelly, like Tony, don't have rings, but hell, at least they got there teams to a Super Bowl (along with putting up impressive stats). In 14 years, Tony had two playoff wins......... Two!
Boomer should be in as well if Romo gets in. He at least has a MVP and Super Bowl appearance. Romo was only an above average starter for seven years including injury riddled years and his team only surpassed eight wins three times over that span. I think Romo always got too much flack - he was a good quality quarterback. But I don't think he's a Hall of Famer. Four playoff appearances, four losses and only four Pro Bowls with no All Pro's or superlatives. The four after him should get in relatively quickly. I can see them holding Boldin for a while. DeMarcus Ware and maybe Andre Johnson are the only true first ballot guys on there IMO. I think Mathis gets in eventually because of sack accumulation. He was always Robin of his sack duos though barring one year.
When I think 1st ballot HOFer I think Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees set the bar for entry. If you look at their career stats Romo just doesn’t fit the bill. The one argument you could makes is that Romo started about 140 games less Manning and Brees. If Romo had the longevity those two had he would have similar numbers. However Romo doesn’t even come close when it comes to the playoffs in terms of winning. Manning GS 265 PY 71,940 TDs 539 Brees GS 286 PY 80,358 TDs 571 Romo GS 127 PY 34,183 TDs 248 I’m not pulling for the guy to get in but wouldn’t be surprised if he does.
https://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-...resses-new-teammate-with-aaron-rodgers-throws Progress for Klecko. Doubt he gets in for 2022 though.
Even my Cowboys fan in laws laughed when I told them about the HOF. The guy is so totally overrated and has been his entire career. A stat compiler, and whatever gene he had is the opposite of the clutch gene.
It's only because he played for the Cowboys and hes on TV that Romo is even being discussed. Same career but if Romo played for Carolina or Tennessee or Jacksonville, no way would he even sniff the HOF. Case in point? Steve McNair who had a much better career than Romo. He's never getting in
Haha, I remember that Jets game (away) in Sept 2011 where Romo totally flubbed/fumbled/threw a critical INT and blew the game. "Tony Romo for President!" He was OK, but never came up big in a big spot to speak of. I can't tell you how loud I shrieked over that epic fumbled snap against Seattle in the WC game with about a minute left. I'm ambivalent about Seattle, but I was so pissed off at Fat Parcells for quitting on us that I was overjoyed. Parcells, he gave me nothing. So yeah, Dallas lost 21-20, how does it feel? Jetsesque, perhaps? There were times when Romo almost out-Sanchezed Sanchez. And that's a pretty tall order. I agree that a lot of the displaced glowing accolades has to do with Dallas being 'Americas Team'. Bleh. I think an argument can be made for McNair, and I hate to say it, but I think it also has to do with the events leading up to his murder. I think he had CTE personally. I'm not at all victim blaming to be clear. Awful.
