Approximately 90% of the Covid diagnoses in the US in the last two months have been the Delta variant. That's why it is all anybody is talking about right now. The Lambda variant has been rising in South America but it is still a very small percentage of US cases, under 1% of current diagnoses as of July 1st. We need to get used to the discovery of new variants for the forseeable future. Our inability to get enough people vaccinated to get to herd immunity is probably going to extend the pandemic significantly for us. The rest of the world except for Europe and China are going be getting rolled for a longer time than that unless they manage to get access to a significant supply of vaccines. If Covid-19 does mutate into a really lethal form and do us all it will be a variant coming out of somewhere with a lot of people to infect and no vaccinations to keep it from mutating at will in that pool. If we're lucky our relative immunity will protect us but as we see with the Delta variant that is a sketchy proposition.
It most likely is; almost all cases these days are delta, plus delta often doesn't result in a loss of taste or smell.
This is one of the few things that is positive about Delta compared to it's predecessors. It doesn't appear to breach the blood-brain barrier and settle in the brain. My best guess is that we have a wave of Covid-19 related dementia headed our way over the next generation. Right now it is just showing up in victims as loss of taste and smell, cloudy thinking and extreme fatigue but that's very unlikely to be the endgame for people effected in these ways.
Hope you get better soon Brook! Have they got you on an AIRVO or other nasal high flow oxygen device?
WOW! I'm sorry to hear about this Brook! And now pneumonia? Jeeeesh! I trust you're still in the hospital. Where I live most of the people just don't take Covid seriously, even though we're one of the highest infected areas in the state. But it's no joke, and when these doubters come down with it, many of them become "converted". Anyway, I'm glad you didn't mess around and sought treatment. I hope you're back on your feet soon! BTW: Why didn't you post this in the main NY Jets Forum? Get well soon!
Damn, get better soon! Did you catch it at open practice? Because I would feel pretty damn guilty considering you used my ticket! Damnit. I knew I should have tried to turn it for a profit.
As of today. I am hooked to oxygen tank. Thanks for well wishes. Today worse than yesterday. But doctors say it is normal. This thing makes its peak around 8th day. My body is fighting. Doctors are great. Just isolation is having negative impact on my psyche that's all. Thanks for checking man. Thanks CC. I don't want this to be a distraction really. Appreciate the nice words I got it from a Turkish vaccine doubter last Sunday at my friend's Birthday BBQ. The guy apparently had fever, he was unvaccinated yet still came to the party with no mask and sit next to me entire BBQ. I never wish ill on anyone but if they guy dies, I won't shed a tear. Selfish asshole. Thanks JB
