The LaFleur brothers will be working in different places this August, but they will get a chance to spend some time together before the regular season gets underway. Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur and the Jets will travel to Wisconsin to work out with the Matt LaFleur-coached Packers on August 18 and 19. The two teams will play a preseason game at Lambeau Field on August 21. Ties between the coaching staffs go beyond the brothers. Matt LaFleur was on the 49ers staff with Robert Saleh before moving on to become the Titans’ offensive coordinator in 2019. August’s practices will give Jets first-round pick Zach Wilson further opportunity to work against an opposing defense as he prepares for the regular season. The same will be true for Packers quarterback Jordan Love, although we’ll still need to see what Aaron Rodgers decides to do before saying whether Love will be preparing for a starting job.
This is good news Zach can use all the reps he can before opening day. Also Mike can get some helpful suggestions from big brother Matt after the practices. Seeing they don't play each other this year they can bounce ideas off each other.
The game is in Green Bay, so the joint practices will definitely be there too. I like this. Should be fun, and like you said, a good learning experience for Zach Wilson.
lol I was just joking @BudJet I can't stand him, so I would love to see him Jordan Love light up up this year in Green Bay, lol.
How ironic it would be if the Packers pulled a Brett Farve on Rogers & decide to go with Jordan Love.
I wonder if any tickets will be available for that preseason game? I've always wanted to see a game at Lambeau.
This is a good thing. Wilson and the rest of the rookies getting exposure to another team in advance of the season can only be helpful. Credit to JD and the GB staff for putting this together.
Big fan of this. Breaks up the monotony and gives practice a little juice. Hall vs Adam’s is the match up to watch in this
It’s interesting that two brothers who run the same offense are going to be practicing together. I’m assuming neither of them is going to be showing their hand and it’s going to be a super watered down playbook but I wonder if this was by design. Having Zach (in theory) watch Aaron Rodgers practice a similar playbook is a pretty big benefit. Now Rodgers just has to be there.
The obvious connections between the JETS, the Pack, and Frisco is real. Great way to evaluate the "3rd Most Improved" Squad in the NFL.
This is pretty cool, I can't remember the Jets doing many joint practices. I remember the Redskins one year and the Giants another, can't remember any more.
I actually got to see Lambeau Field once up close and personal. Had a contract job in Green Bay at the airport and while driving around, came across the stadium. Saw the statue of VL out front. Thank God it was in August..
A joint practise can only be a good thing for both teams. Two young Q/B's both get reps against proper opposition and get to experience game pressure.
i think he will force his way out, one way or the other. he watched favre do it, and he is a smarter guy.
