It's very strange that this is a day/night doubleheader, but each game is 7 innings.

The worst thing about the Lucchesi news is that it makes it more likely that they'll send Jake out for his next start, which they shouldn't.

Jake does, in fact, swing at a pitch in his first at bat, despite the speculation that he wouldn't, to protect his shoulder.

I wasn't watching at the time, but apparently deGrom was the first pitcher to be checked for substances, as he left the mound after the top of the first. The umpire checked his hat, glove, and belt, and found nothing problematic.

Pretty routine start for Jake this time - 5 innings, giving up no runs, 2 walks and a hit. ERA down to 0.50. 70 pitches, and as long as he feels fine and the bullpen doesn't blow it (they've already given away half of the four-run lead). Diaz in for the bottom of the 7th in a save situation, and he got checked before the inning started.

And as usual Diaz is great in a save situation. Jake extends his scoreless streak to 30 innings, and the Mets win his seventh straight start.

Bases loaded, one out, bottom of the 7th, Pillar lines out into an almost double play, Drury pops out, Mets lose 1-0 to split the doubleheader.
