Fant is set to make almost $10mm this year. $6.5mm is guaranteed. The numbers don’t make sense for him to make a pay cut.

Fant had never been a starting OT before last year. JD knew it would take 2 years before he could accurately evaluate him. It’s too bad JD isn’t as good at evaluating players as the posters of TGG.

For the people talking about Fant and his salary this year…forget about all of that.

-He would be a great backup
-He isn’t nearly as good as Moses
-Main objective is to surround Wilson with Weapons and a Wall.

    Well said Penny.

I we wanted to ask you if we're able to land Morgan Moses @ RT (96 consecutive starts) would Fant then have an opportunity @ 6'5/322 lbs to become a starter @ RG and next to Moses @ RT?

    LT: Mekhi Becton.
    LG: Vera-Tucker.
    C: Tyler Linderbaum.
    RG: George Fant.
    RT: Morgan Moses.

Tyler Linderbaum. 1st round Center out of Iowa. I don't think he'll get past Joe Douglas.

The x1000. Fant becomes the swing tackle stepping in for any injuries. Plus he can line up at TE in jumbo sets.

His money isn't guaranteed next year so if JD is higher on Moses, no reason not to sign him to a 2-3 year deal and then continue to address the OL in the draft.

There is literally no down side to signing Moses, unless it's an absurd amount of guaranteed cash.

Fant really doesn't have the body type for G. He's long and athletic and probably doesn't have a strong enough lower base to play inside.

My preference is to just keep Fant at T. That way if there is an injury, we don’t have to reshuffle the entire line. RG isn’t a strength, but with proper Oline play at C and RT, I don’t think it is as glaring of an issue.

Not to mention we can use him as a 6th OL/eligible receiver.

It is an upgrade on the Oline and that can’t be underrated when you have a rookie QB picked 2nd overall.

He is also a terrific run blocker which is also critical in helping the young gun develop.

I have no qualms with you disagreeing with me though!

I think signing Moses strengthens the OL whether it pushes Fant inside or just solidifies depth overall. If anything it probably means the end of Edoga either way and truth be told by the time the Jets are ready to compete for a championship they will have a new RT anyway. Fant will be on the team this year regardless per his contract and his play has been steady if unremarkable. Definitely an upgrade over Shell.....but will be on the wrong side of 30 when his contract is up.

Rookie QB is right and imo in order to contend on offense you'll always need to feature at least an O-Line veteran or two. We're already featuring two younger pups in Becton alongside of Vera-Tucker an awesome problem to finally have however there's already lot of youth on the left side to begin with so can the right side of our O-Line have some proven NFL experience for Zach Wilson plz?

    Kevin Mawae (Vinny).
    Jumbo Elliott (Vinny).
    Alan Faneca (Favre/Sanchez).
    Damien Woody (Sanchez).
    Morgan Moses (Zach Wilson).

    Just makes sense for us.

    Yes. Edoga's gotta go too.

He's got too much Maccagnan/Sam stink written all over his style of play because last year against Joey Bosa and the Chargers he was destroyed despite 0 sacks given up he still allowed Bosa to knock down Joe Flacco 5x.

Not only were those 5 QB KDs a 2020 season high for Joey Bosa but those 5 QB knockdowns against our backup QB was also a career high for Bosa (5th year in the league).

I think I've seen enough of this right side of our just last year alone to know enough to know that i don't even want this kid anywhere near Wilson. He'll end up getting Zach Wilson either hurt or absolutely demolished out there too. .

Anyone know how many QB pressures George Fant allowed last season @ RT?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the Jets haven’t been a good, playoff caliber team since the offensive line was good. It doesn’t have to be great, just top 10-15.

There were arguments about whether to build out the OL or skill positions first, and Douglas has managed to do both at the same time, at least on paper. It’s refreshing and inspires some confidence in his abilities.

If Moses improve the OL, pay the man. He doesn’t have to be a complete game changer to have a worthwhile impact.

Was that a reminder that Flacco was better than Sam last season?

I saw a post on this site that Fant allowed 33 or 34 pressures last year. No idea if it is true or not. I would like to know if it is true as well.

The Jets are making the same moves to improve the team that they did more than a decade ago.

The difference is that the Jets back then had some talent to begin with and the Jets now started at bare bones. It is going to get very ugly over the next two years and then we're likely to be starting over again - with the same goddamn plan.

No. I don't know really maybe. All I know is it's a reminder of what happened to Sam dating back to day one of his rookie season and I just don't want Wilson playing behind the same nightmares to his right side.

Interesting…so you are not in favor of the current rebuild? I’d be interested to hear what aspect of this rebuild you are not in support of.

I can’t really think of too many times where I agreed with most of what the GM was doing but this is definitely one of them.

Douglas may not pan out but he at least understands that the OL is worth putting effort into and that you need to score points to win.

His timing isn’t great what with Buffalo and Miami on the rise and the Pats getting a lot of important players back this season. I don’t expect more than 6 wins this year but expect a nice step forward the following. If his plan is working and Wilson is the real deal we should be in the hunt for the VLT in year 3.
