Joe Douglas just landed us some SERIOUS playmaking PLAYMAKERS in Elijah Moore (WR) and Michael Carter (RB).

It's dates back to Santana Moss (WR) and Leon Washington (RB) since we've last featured kids with this much Offensive electricity.

Toney is more than just a speedster. He is like a RB with the ball in his hands, except that he's more elusive than 97% (guesstimate) of RBs. I really wanted him, although I didn't think we'd draft him or could afford to. I'm glad now that we didn't draft him, and drafted Moore instead. Toney didn't report for the first week or so of his rookie OTAs. There possibly could have been a legitimate reason he missed his first NFL practices, but perhaps not. He may have character issues or put money first.

I think Moore is going to be a star in the NFL.

I think it is definitely our turn to get "that guy." I don't think it's luck or luck of the draw, however. I believe in Karma, and that one creates one's own "luck" with experience/knowledge, intelligence, hard work and preparation. I think we finally got the right GM and the Johnsons finally have the sense to step back and allow JD to call the shots. As a result, the pieces are starting to fall into place. With a competent GM he is getting us in great cap shape, is making great trades and deals, signing FAs that will help us to develop, and drafting well. He hired the right HC, who in turn is making the right moves and who hired what appears to be an excellent staff. It's early yet, but based on preliminary returns from OTAs and decisions made around the draft, things are looking very promising. We have our QB of the future and the best and deepest WR corps we've had in a long time. It may be the deepest ever. We have the left side of our OL to protect our rookie QB's blind side and both have perennial All Pro potential. We have a lot of hungry young players who are fast and athletic. We should have at least the beginnings of a dynamic pass rush. We should have a productive rushing attack. We have a new health and training staff which enable our players to stay healthier, stronger, and be better players. I'm sure there will be some bumps along the way, but imo we are primed to become a very good team within the next year or two, and quite possibly a legit Lombardi Trophy contender.

For some reason I forgot to watch footage of Moore prior to the draft, so never really knew about him. I had watched game and highlight videos of Toney, however and wanted him. I knew we had no shot at drafting Chase, Waddle or Smith since we were taking Zach. They are the only three of the WRs you listed that I would have taken over Toney. We needed a WR like Moore/Toney/Rondale Moore. The problem with Rondale Moore is that he can't stay healthy, so I had no interest in him. I didn't like TuTu Atwell at all. He's way too small imo and will either be a part-time gadget player or will stay injured all the time. I liked Marshall, Bateman, Eskridge and Rodgers, but Marshall and Bateman were the only ones that I felt could and possibly should go ahead of Toney. Bateman is too much like Mims and Davis. Eskridge and Rodgers were not rated nearly as high as Toney was and neither offered what I thought Toney offered. I never thought we'd take a WR as high as the 2nd round. I thought it would be at least the 3rd and maybe the 4th or 5th rounds before we drafted a WR. I focused on WRs at that point that could be our future slot WRs and PRs like Eskridge and Shi Smith, and there may have been one or two more that fit that mold.

At any rate, I'm delighted that I was wrong about JD's plans and that he took Moore, not Toney.

I absolutely loved Kyle Pitts (as I remember you did, as well; heck we all did) but i never wanted anything to do with Toney.

His Senior season was because of opposing defenses having to fear Kyle Pitts.

    In other words Kadarius Toney was a 1 hit wonder (2020);

Because throughout his first 3 years of 2017/2018/2019? He only combined for..

27 games, 50 receptions, 606 receiving yards and 2 TD receptions

(an average of only 9 games, 16.6 receptions, 202 receiving yards and 0.6 TDs per year) throughout his first 3 years).

I personally consider him one of the worst draft picks of the 1st round and I would've blew a head gasket had we drafted him.

Yes. Someone said we have the worst WR unit within the AFC East.

Buffalo has Diggs/Beasley and who else, 4th round Gabriel Davis?

Miami has Waddle and what else, lol DeVante Parker and Will Fuller?

And N.E? Laughable. Julian Edelman just retired and outside of Nelson Agholor (above average) I can not name another single Patriots WR and that's because the days of Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski (TE), Aaron Hernandez (TE) and now Julian Edelman are long gone. Who the freak do they have?

    WR 1: Corey Davis.
    WR 2: Denzel Mims.
    Slot: Elijah Moore.
    WR 4: Jamison Crowder.
    WR 5: Keelan Cole.

They say you're only as good as your weakest link and I'm sorry but not many teams have a WR 5 with as much production under their belt as Keelan Cole; I wouldn't trade this 1-5 WR room for any AFC East's WR room.

I used OurLads for depth charts.

Parker is good and so is Fuller when he's healthy. The problem is that Fuller is rarely healthy for long. Still that's a good group of 3. Their top 3 backups at the moment are: Lynn Bowden, Jr. (is a very good prospect or was), Preston Williams, and Malcolm Perry. Perhaps others can shed light on the quality (or lack thereof) of their backups.

Buffalo's starters are Digs, Beasley, and Davis. Their top 3 backup WRs at the moment are: Emmanuel Sanders, Isaiah Hodgins, and Duke Williams. Sanders has been a good WR but is getting older (34).

NE's starters are: Nelson Agholor, Jakobi Meyers, and Kendrick Bourne. Their top 3 backups are: N'Keal Harry, Kristian Wilkerson, and Gunner Olszewski.

There's no doubt that NE has the worst WR corps. IMO Buffalo has the top 3 starters. Depending upon whom our #6 would be (Berrios?) I think we probably have better depth. I think Miami's and our top 3 are pretty equal. They probably have the edge in the starting 3, but our depth is better. This could all change by season's end. If Moore winds up starting and Mims starts and plays up to his potential, then I think we could wind up with the best starting 3.

    Appreciate that post, thnx.

Nothing against Zach Wilson. I love his talent. He's just unproven so....

    QB: Josh Allen.

    WR: Corey Davis.
    WR: Denzel Mims.
    Slot: Elijah Moore.
    WR: Jamison Crowder.

All of a sudden, that looks pretty damn scary (4 wide).

And if Elijah Moore lives up to potential he's going to quicky develop into a WR 1. Kid is freakish with literally Odell Beckham Jr. type talent/athleticism.

Trying to reign in my excitement and optimism about Moore at least until he plays, but sounds they might have gotten an absolute steal and a star.

    https://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-...two-decades-for-wr-prospect-like-elijah-moore

Jets have been waiting two decades for WR prospect like Elijah Moore
    6:00 AM ET
    • [IMG]
      Rich CiminiESPN Staff Writer

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Wide receiver Elijah Moore and running back Michael Carter show up every day at 6:30 a.m. to get in extra work before practice -- an un-rookie-like routine that has impressed the New York Jets' coaches. In Moore's case, the early bird catches the pass.

    A lot of passes.

The former Ole Miss star has been the standout of the Jets' offseason practices, demonstrating the skill that convinced them to draft him 34th overall. Beyond talent, Moore's "work ethic is off the charts," Jets coach Robert Saleh said. "His mindset is off the charts."

When these tidbits were passed along to Tevin Allen, a South Florida-based "sports movement specialist" who has been training Moore for seven years, his response was matter-of-fact.

"That's Elijah Moore," Allen said by phone. "You're going to get this every single year. That's not a façade. That's not just to get on the coach's good side."

Allen speaks from experience. Over the past few offseasons, he has received odd-hour texts from Moore, who has an insatiable drive to master his craft. There have been 7 a.m. training sessions at Riverland Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, adjacent to their alma mater, St. Thomas Aquinas High School. There have been 11 p.m. workouts at Central Park in nearby Plantation.

Moore usually texts with a specific plan in mind: Want to work on option routes. ... Want to work on tracking the ball over my shoulder on slot fades.

    That sort of thing.

"He's not playing for a participation trophy," said Allen, a former Illinois State defensive back and CEO of Gold Feet Global. "He's going to do whatever it takes to get that No. 1 spot."

The Jets are counting on Moore to be a trend-buster. They have a sorry history when it comes to drafting wide receivers. The list of recent disappointments includes ArDarius Stewart, Devin Smith and Stephen Hill. In fact, the Jets' last draft to produce a Pro Bowl wide receiver was 2001, when they chose Santana Moss 16th overall. He made the Pro Bowl with the Washington Football Team, not the Jets.

It's way too soon to put Moore in that company, but he does have some Moss-like qualities in that he's undersized at 5-foot-9, but smooth, surehanded and precise with his routes. Allen, who has worked with several NFL receiving stars, said Moore was a better route runner in high school than some NFL players.

The Jets are using Moore in a variety of roles, namely the X, F (slot) and Z positions at receiver. At times, they could use him in tandem with slot receiver Jamison Crowder, who agreed to a restructured contract on Monday. Moore and Crowder will practice together for the first time Tuesday for the start of New York's mandatory minicamp.

Moore also is getting a chance to audition for the punt-returning job. The coaches love his versatility and ability to make yards after the catch, his calling card at Ole Miss, where he amassed 1,193 receiving yards and 86 catches in eight games last season.

the 2019 Egg Bowl incident such a surprise. After scoring a touchdown in the final seconds, bringing Ole Miss to within one point against Mississippi State, he got down on all fours and pretended to urinate like a dog. He cost his team the game. The 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty pushed them back and the Ole Miss kicker missed the extra point, resulting in a 21-20 loss.

The crude celebration was an out-of-character lapse resulting in a torrent of criticism despite Moore's apology. In an interview after the 2021 NFL draft, Moore showed accountability, saying he learned a lot from the mistake. Allen, who has known Moore since he was 14, called it a turning point.

"I believe the Egg Bowl situation put him in a different zone because that's not the kid he is," Allen said. "Everybody was sending him death threats and saying he needs to lose his scholarship, things like that.

"It hit him, man. It could've messed up a lot of people. It put him in a position where he could either use it as fuel or it could've buried him, but he obviously went back the next year and showed who he is."

From the time he was 12, when he started working with wide-receiver trainer Sly Johnson, Moore has lived an "accelerated lifestyle," according to Allen. He has trained with wide receivers such as the Cleveland Browns' Odell Beckham Jr., Buffalo Bills' Stefon Diggs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Antonio Brown, absorbing knowledge from the masters. When he got to college, he learned from teammates DK Metcalf (Seattle Seahawks) and A.J. Brown (Tennessee Titans).

Moore was on the fast track to the fast track, which has led him to the Jets.

"He can line up wherever you want, and he's going to execute it at a very high level, even though the routes might be a little bit different, the stems might be different, the releases might be a little bit different," Saleh said. "He's showcasing his ability to be as versatile as possible in terms of being at different parts of the field, being at different positions, understanding what needs to get done, so when the ball gets to his hands he can still do what he does best -- and that's run after catch."

I still can't believe Joe Douglas pulled the trigger and drafted this freak because it's not often I get the 1 explosive Offensive player who I was craving for ala...

    Chris Johnson (took Gholston).

    DeAndre Hopkins (took Dee Milliner).

Allen Robinson/Davante Adams/Jarvis Landry (took Calvin Pryor).

    Todd Gurley (took Leonard Williams).

    Derrick Henry (took Darron Lee).

    Dalvin Cook (took Marcus Maye).

Jerry Jeudy (took Mekhi Becton, but I'm A+ happy about it now).

    Etc. Etc.

I've always loved RBs and WRs but all my favorite draft prospects always get passed on by Jets GMs. I've hated it. I'm so excited JD finally drafted one of the kids I wanted; Elijah Moore is a freak.

    I know man.

Me and my older brother have always sworn to the Football God's that we could've (and would've) done a better job at picking 1st round talents than these previous GMs have. It's been pathetic. Every year me and my brother head into the draft with a list of fire power players only to watch them get drafted immediately after us. We'd probably stink after the 1st round but still how can you miss as professional scouts on so many 1st round players?

Everyone and their mother knew 2014's WR draft class was pegged as the top WR class in over 20 years. We all had WRs mocked to us as Jets fans.

But then Idzik drafts Safety and TE while ignoring WR x2? Inexcusable.

    Joe Douglas is different.

On draft night last year we were all screaming for Denzel Mims to fall to us in the 2nd during our Zoom conference (JN). We had our fingers crossed throughout like 10+ picks for Denzel Mims and then when he fell to us? JD didn't hesitate. He took him.

Elijah Moore falls to us? No hesitation (and ALL of TGG, 99.9% wanted Elijah Moore there) and we were all absolutely petrified that Jax would steal him with the 1st pick of the 2nd round. But they didn't. But J.D did.

He's different. He gets it. And Zach Wilson was a given but Mekhi Becton/Denzel Mims/Alijah Vera-Tucker/Elijah Moore, just, doesn't lie.

He even traded up for the #1 rated interior O-Lineman in Vera-Tucker because he knew 100% he wouldn't be available @ pick 23 of the 1st. And he came INTO the draft knowing he wouldn't be available at 23 and therefore got on the phones and worked like a DOG to move up.

What I love most about JDs drafting is he understands our weak spots heading into drafts.

    Zach Wilson (QB).
    Alijah Vera-Tucker (LG).
    Elijah Moore (WR).
    Michael Carter (RB).

We've easily got the best Offensive draft class of any other NFL team (and I don't think it's really even close).

I think they have two 4ths and 3-6th round picks as well. With the way things are going so far, it looks like we are going to be a very talented team. It's hard for me not to get excited and get ahead of myself. I definitely think our future is very bright!

Actually, someone corrected me and it's one 4th, two 5ths and three 6ths, which could produce a starter or two, and certainly should add competition, depth, and STs.
