Of course they could have. They could of even built in NY. But when it comes to the Johnsons and the Maras only one thing truly matters - profit.
Pretty sure I was at that game as I had season tickets for the Jets at Shea every year until they moved to NJ.
@mrjet80 there was a pretty good program on NFL Network a few years ago about the reasons why the Jets and Giants moved to NJ and all of the controversy surrounding the move. It was one of their "Timeline" episodes. It focused on the Giants (obviously, lol) but it was about the decision of both NY teams to move to NJ instead of remaining in NY. It discussed the politics in NYC at the time and why the move made economic sense for both teams, etc.
@mrjet80 did you see the recent tragic news regarding McMichael MrJet? he has been diagnosed with ALS.
Yes I did and I thought of two things - that MNF game and the time he sang “ Take me out to the ball game “ on the microphone (Cubs Tradition) at Wrigley Field with a beer in his hand (not his first) and called out the home plate umpire in front of the entire stadium ..... it’s on utube.
I believe that is the time where he mocked Angel Hernandez as well. Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
Angel Hernandez deserved it too. I still do not understand how he still has a job? Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
if it wasn't for the seahawks and leahy missing the chippies.....we certainly would have went to the second SB in the early 80's... at the very least no mudbowl and a couple more playoff games at shea for us to look back on in frustration. LOL.
Bobby Jackson also - dropped INT in the 82 regular season game in Miami. Jets would have been at Shea in the playoff tournament except for a trip to LA but they wound up winning out there anyway. No mud bowl ....
I was just going over the Lou Holtz season and that was probably one of the most atrocious things I've ever seen. I was too young, so no recollection but man, it looked like the team mailed it in every game. They played New England and had 10 turnovers in the game. 10! Is that a record? Namath had 5 in that game. I can see now why Lou quit. He probably wanted to get rid of Namath before the season.
Who remembers us getting thrashed 55-21 by Steve Grogan back in 78? This is one of my first memories of watching football as a kid. This game. We were playing well heading into the game & I'll never forget that first Jets feeling where you realize it's over before it even begins. I just looked at the box score to refresh my memory and we were losing 41-7 at the half. I remember being fixated on Steve Grogan's long neck. I should have known right after this game what it was going to be like as a Jets fan. I have another memory of that season too. The Cleveland game where we made a great 4th quarter comeback only to lose in OT. Another beauty.
I was too young - It was a couple of years before my interest began in football but I do remember reading about those games and 1978 and the new uniforms etc. Then gradually as time passed and videos started coming out and seeing highlights of those games....I can only imagine a Jets fan after watching that Cleveland game rollercoaster. No chance and then they got This and then oh shit no........ the Jets have quite a miserable history in Cleveland.
I believe they did - the Shea game right? Didn’t the same guy run back 2 INTs for TDS? That was a miserable season.
