So I need new tires for my car and rather than getting ripped off by the local 'family-friend' mechanic that I realized after a couple sessions is an absolute thief, I will be shopping around.

I'm just looking for standard 18inch all-season tires. Preferably not the worst but I also don't need the best in the world either. I took a look at Costco and before logging in to the membership portal I see that I can get four for about $500-$600.

Anyone have any suggestions? Better vs worse brands? Price range to look for?

If you have a Mavis by you, they seem to have the best pricing . And you can never go wrong with Goodyear.

What kind of car do you have?

Sedan, SUV, AWD, FWD, do you swap out for winter tires?

I would recommend Michelin, best tires on the planet.

Also remember, most tires are made by 4 companies and use different names.

    Continental makes General tires.

    Michelin makes BF Goodrich

    Goodyear makes Kelly tires.

Town Fair Tires are best bang for the buck, they don’t charge for rotation of tires if you buy them there and their alignment machine is best in the industry.

What do you mean rotation? Don’t they rotate when you drive?

    1) definitely round
    2) definitely need to rotate
    3) Costco & Tire Outlet are good places to start (although once I got tires at Costco, and they wouldnt install because the were one size up from stock. ..... Prices was still way better (BF Goodrich) so I bought them and took them to a local independent guy to install)..... Those tires are kinda overated anyway. Looked good, but wet traction on pavement kinda sucked.

Actually just got a set of "Naankang" tires on the truck last summer.... They had a big special on them (basically one tire free). I was super skeptical.
"These aren't just some cheap shitty chinese tires are they?'
"No, pretty good actually.... I have them on my jeep." Points outside to a bad-ass tricked out jeep with more $ in aftermarket add-ons than my truck is worth.
"Ok, well if theyre good enough for you, theyre definitely good enough for my truck"

Major improvement over the sad excuse of once good "tires" that I kept on there for WAAAAY too long.

2013 Luxury AWD Sedan. I held off for an entire year because we never did end up going back to work and I've used my car minimally in terms of volume.

I think I'm going to end up at Mavis as it's close and they seem easy to work with. Price quote looks at about $800 for four Pirelli. Anyone know about the brand? They're the second most cost effective.

    Make Reservation
Tire Specifications: Pirelli | Cinturato P7 AS
    Size 225/40VR18 Sidewall Blackwall
Speed Rating V Service Desc 92V
Load Range XL UTQG Tread 500
UTQG Traction A UTQG Temp A
Overall Rating: Pirelli - Cinturato P7 AS

The Bridgestone tires are about $200 more for the set of 4 with worse ratings on Mavis' website.

Pirellis are good tires, can’t go wrong especially at that price.

They are owned by a Chinese company and are made in China, not trying to stir the pot just giving you information in case that was important to you.

Truth is they all have factories all over the world.

Mavis will rotate free for the life of the tires and for 5 bucks extra give you Insurance on replacing the tires (flats or blowouts) during its lifetime Usually 40 or 50,000 miles on a Mavis tire

It is important to me to an extent but at the price point difference I'll eat my pride on where it's manufactured. Not to mention they seem to be much better quality according to all the ratings I read than the Bridgestone.

    Thanks for the help man.

Try and get those with a road hazard warranty.

i have pirelli's on an alfa guilia......nailed one of the zillion pot holes on the shithole long island roads and blew a 2 inch gash in the outer side wall (front tire).

did NOT notice it until AFTER driving 85 miles at all sorts of speeds.

    no indicator light came on.
