https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/05/10/jaguars-could-sign-tim-tebow-after-rookie-minicamp/ Another questionable decision by Urban Meyer. Between spending the opening day of legal tampering on the golf course, complaining about how free agency process and drafting a first round runningback to be the third down guy with a 22 year old 1,000 yard rusher on the roster, this might take the cake.
Geez, it's time for Tebow to just go away. During his NFL career, didn't some teams try to persuade him to give tight end a try? Didn't he refuse, telling them he was a QB and only a QB? The only thing that has changed since then is that Tebow has been out of the limelight. I guess good ol' Tim really likes the limelight.
That's pretty remarkable. 2 separate NFL careers, a broadcasting career, a filmmaking career, an MLB career and he's only 33.
I mean, call me cynical, but it's almost as if the Jags want to sell merch and grab headlines with this signing.
Definitely not. They want to help the development of their young quarterback by bringing as much unwanted attention to the franchise as possible for minimal production. Look at how much it helped Sanchez.
Definitely no MLB career - happily the Mets were neither stupid nor desperate enough to actually let him play for the big squad in a game that counted. It's amazing how a guy who so obviously peaked in life in college has managed to trade on it so successfully for more than 10 years.
IMO I don’t think Meyer will workout...this ain’t college ball... there be no 16-1 season .. he’s so used to winning .. how will he handle losses piling up?...at best there a 7 win team... and didn’t he have some health issues a few years back .. maybe I’m wrong but if your Trevor Lawrence to Zach Wilson I think Zack Wilson’s situation is much better
I can't believe, nearly a decade on, there's still new Tebow threads on this forum. He's like that talentless boy band member who can't accept his 15 minutes is well and truly over.
I still think Tebow could've been effective as a short-yardage, change of pace and goal-line or 2pt conversion QB, assuming the Jets had competent coaching, which, lets not forget, he was here with Tony Sparano as OC (RIP).
Tebow is Tebow because he wears his religious beliefs on his sleeve where everybody can see them. This has led to an enormous constituency for him throughout his career. I wish he had switched to TE with the Jets in 2012. He still had a real chance to be a good NFL player back then.
I don't think it's fair to speak that ill of him. He's a genuinely good guy. I also don't think he's talentless. He just wasn't cut out to be an NFL QB, but there's no denying his athletic talent. As others have said, if he could have switched to TE or a slash role, he could have been great. That was his biggest mistake.
I seriously think he crashes and burns in JAX..... his schtick isnt gonna stick with the pros..... then after a bad draft or two he'll develop another mysterious "health problem" He had Timmy to help keep his band of thugs in line at UF, maybe he's hoping the same can happen here...... or Shad Khan decided he needs the ticket sales.
I don't see it ending any other way than what you described. The sad part is that they were probably the most attractive coaching spot this past off-season with an owner that seems willing to spend, the #1 pick and an additional first rounder. And he chose this nomad whose never coached in any fashion at the NFL level.
