I never said I would attack him personally. I said I will pick apart every word he says. There is a difference. Whether or not he can handle someone challenging him on what he says, is up to him. Yes, you can say it is passive-aggressive, but it is a lot better than calling someone names. At least you are making a point about football. If you don't want people challenging what you say, do not post on a public message board. Real simple. I never get angry over what someone says on a football message board. I've seen it all.
Obviously, I'm joking around in that post. We need a bit of levity during the offseason. If someone goes insane from reading a message board, well hey, I guess I did my job. Anyway, weed is now legal. Very important when watching a Jets game. I think I learned that while attending my first Jets game in 1980 against the 49ers. We were losing 27-3 at halftime when I suddenly noticed this funny smell in the crowd. As a 9 year old kid, I knew at that time the NY Jets would be my football team for life. We did make a comeback but fell short and lost 37-27. How time flies.
Maybe Woody, after being away a few years, has had an epiphany of sorts to make a change in how he operates from now on. He was looking from outsiders perspective, more like an well informed fan because obviously he was kept on the loop of what's going on at the facility but he wasn't part of day-to-day decision making process. At least the decision to make the HC to answer to the GM instead of them being equal gives me hope that he has realized that a structure like that doesn't work, so he made a change.
I disagree about Gase crunching numbers all day.... he should be an assistant manager of some fast food restaurant working the window asking if you want that meal supersize
Thanks you for this post... it made me smile quite a bit this morning. Fondly remembering my first Jets game in ‘78. Monday night football game vs the Vikings. I asked my Dad why the guy behind us was ‘smoking a funny cigarette.’
And my friends and I apologize for that. BTW, that game may have been Montana's debut, and was the day that Clark Gaines caught dump-offs from Todd all day long. Also, I remember a fistfight afterwards, outside the stadium near the visitors bullpen.
That was '79, and was a wild night, discussed many many times here. A guy crawled out on the Mets backstop netting from the Loge section and tried doing trampoline moves. Crowd loved it at first, the guy wore out his welcome, and the boys in the Mezzanine showered him with love. (beer, cans, pint bottles, other projectiles) He had to lie face down, hands behind his head, for protection. We won 14-7. My Mom wrote me a sick note allowing me to show-up at school late the next day. Love you Mom! (Mother's Day tie-in)

Actually it's funny that you brought it up because after I posted that, I went to Football Reference and looked up the game. It jogged my memory and the main story leading up to the game was when they would insert him into the game. Also the question was why isn't Montana the starter. Keep in mind, Montana's first 2 seasons he came off the bench in a planned role. 1980 was his second year and they were starting to incorporate him more into the offense. If you look at the game, look at all the stars I got to see in my first NFL game without realizing it at the time. I saw Montana throw 2 TDs passes in that game, one to Dwight Clark. Also got to see Walt Michaels and Bill Walsh coach against each other. Yes, Richard Todd also threw for 60 times that game. He was 42-60 for around 450 yards. Reason being of course we were trailing 27-3 at halftime. They actually had a chance to come back but I think Todd threw 4th qtr interceptions which killed our rally. What a first game. The weed was intense. LOL
Yes Shea Stadium Jets games really were not meant for kids. You didn't see many kids at the games back then. The entire stadium was a haze of pot smoke and it smelled like cheap beer. All the seats were sticky and the weather was usually brutal since our home games didn't start until the Mets season ended. Of course I was too young, but my memory of all the smokers at halftime hanging out by the outside ramps puffing way is etched in my mind.

Oh my God another funny thing. For some reason, at Jets games, fans liked to climb on the Mets Homeplate netting. I can assure you, that was not an isolated incident since I remember someone actually fell. Still, people used to do it all the time. I saw someone almost fall out of the Mezzanine trying to catch a foul ball from Pete Rose. Luckily his buddies grabbed him as he was dangling head first over the railing.
with all due respect, I NEVER got good vibes from Gase & I personally felt we were doomed from the start. I never wanted him, but I tried to be optimistic about him but I just never felt good about him. I felt better about Bowles, but still never as psyched as I feel about Saleh, JD, & the direction the Jets are headed. A lot is different. Best vibes I have had since 2010.
Some may, but not everyone. I think there were very few who welcomed Gase as the HC. Some of us tried to be hopeful and optimistic, but we pretty much believed it was an awful hire and was doomed to fail. Some of us didn't like the Bowles hire, either. Initially, I was very skeptical about Saleh. I was tired of all the former DCs as our HCs since they all thought they could win with D and wanted to draft nothing but defensive players early. I started getting more hopeful as I read how much players loved him, how most considered him to be the best candidate, and how most posters here were truly excited to get him as our HC. I liked his early press conferences, but still had my doubts. This draft won me over. His being in lockstep with JD and the offensive coaches on wanting Wilson, and his not only being ok with, but actually wanting offense early, and then he got stoked when we got Moore. THAT is when I totally bought into Saleh. He is different than any HC we've hired since Parcells. We've never hired the best HC candidate available. We've never had a former DC who focused on fixing the offense. We haven't had a HC with so much energy and enthusiasm since Rex, and it's clear that Saleh is everything that Rex wasn't/isn't. Saleh is a leader. He's smart. He's not a crude, bloviating blowhard publicly. He's a great face for the franchise, not an embarrassment or the ringleader of a three-ring circus. Saleh truly IS a breath of fresh air. He's blowing out decades of stench, darkness and ignorance away.
