Not sure this kind of running back is widely used in the league anymore. Even the guys we might think are this, based on size, are running a 4.5. You really can't be an effective running back in the league anymore without a bit of breakaway speed--defenses are way too strong/athletic. Najee Harris or Javonte Williams would've done just fine in this offense cause they're just good running backs, period. With that said, very happy with the Michael Carter pick and think he'll do well--hoping he can bring a bit of Leon Washington to the team on kick returns and third down (at the very least).
When I think of a bulldozer, I never think of a faster RB like Henry or AP. They are the exception to the rule, not the rule.
You may be right that the kind of back I was thinking about are rarely used in the NFL any more. I loved both Harris and Williams, but based upon what I had read about the system and the backs that SF used, I didn't think that they would be scheme fits, but even if they were, I never thought that the Jets would take one of them. Either would have been a luxury pick with all the needs we have. Thanks. This gives me a clearer picture of things.
and b.reyes suggested that you were speaking more about RBs like Javonte Williams and Najee Harris. Is that accurate? If so, then I agree that we could use a back like that, but I still don't know whether LaFleur would want that kind of back or if he prefers RBs more like Mostert.
