It's still very early, too early to draft definite conclusions, but we can draw some conclusions from his two drafts.

I think we can safely say that he looks for high-character players who love football, were team captains, and smart.

I think we can safely say that he doesn't look to draft BPA regardless of position or scheme fit. He definitely considers need and scheme fit.

He isn't afraid trade up or trade down, and seems to handle the draft like a seasoned GM.

He gets good value with his picks and trades.

It appears he may have certain physical types, in terms of size and speed.

He has a plan and looks to execute it very well.

Following are some other observations I found on Twitter.

he also seems to "target" players and do what it takes to get them. and weighs the risk/reward of giving up a player to get another. Like he said it hurt giving up the 3rd they were gonna use to get michael carter but they really wanted AVT then lucky enough carter fell to them in the 4th

he fielded calls in the 2nd but refused to move down when he had moore as an option. he basically got the top 4 players he realistically wanted. yeah some was luck like moore falling because gettleman took toney over him and carter falling to the 4th but still i'm sure he had a plan in mind if that didn't happen

    The best for me:
He will draft offensive lineman with first round picks!

He's the first Jets GM since Parcells to have a blueprint and he's obviously sticking to it. Major, MAJOR, change for the better!

I just heard on the Play Like a Jet Podcast, that if the Jets had not traded up for AVT, the three players they were considering at #23 were Elijah Moore, Teven Jenkins, and Najee Harris.

It was also said that Jabril Cox wasn't on the Jets' draft board. I wonder why. Must have been a character issue thing.

As much as I liked Harris, I think what Douglas did was better.

Me too! I was just surprised that they actually seriously considered Harris.

Why do you think it's funny, because JD also liked them? I liked them because I thought they were great prospects.

He likes Davis’s in free Agency and Carter’s in the draft that’s for sure LOL

His picks are solid I get where he was coming from with all his picks. I hated trading up for AVT because we lost 2 3rd rounders and could of still had Darrisaw or Tucker with those picks BUT I get why he did it. Love the Moore and Carter pick. All the DBs are lottery tickets that could hit big.

Neither Darrisaw nor Tucker would have been available at 23. The Vikings wanted Darrisaw and the Raiders and a slew of other teams wanted Tucker.

Yep on the Play Like a Jet podcast I listened to yesterday, they said at least 3 other teams had strong interest in taking AVT, and more than likely all of those teams would have taken him if they had the chance.

Without the trade, it looks like we take Moore at 23, Jenkins at 34 and Carter at 86.

So basically it comes down to:

Jenkins and an early 3rd Rd CB
    Vs
AVT and a late 4th Rd CB

Sherman has repeatedly said his #1 factor is signing with a contender. If he signs with us, it’ll speak volumes.

Players linked to the Jets compared to who we took:
    Creed Humphies vs. AVT
    Anthony Schwartz vs. E Moore
    Javian Hawkins vs. Michael Carter

    A tight ship, indeed.
