cool, Penny. then I can certainly understand and respect your attachment to it. I just thought it was something you bought somewhere. Cool beans.
I never denied that and even offered the explanation for it. Just found it weird that you needed to use an antagonistic phrase out of the blue for no reason at all. At the end of the day we are all internet people anyway.
you can't hit on them all. the perine pick was one I just really disliked from the start. I do like the carter pick a lot though
There's no way he beats out Frank Gore. Gore will be the linchpin of the offense in 2021. Gore is a beast.
I wasn't in love with this guy. I suppose its a 4th rounder so its to be expected that he's not the complete package but a good running back in the NFL is one that can slip or break tackles. I dont see it with him. I think he will be a speed into the hole and immediately get tackled guy
For those looking for a reason to feel extra good about this pick, Jordan Reid from TDN released his 5 biggest sleepers from the draft this weekend. Michael Carter (RB) checked in on the list. (link) RB MICHAEL CARTER, ROUND 4 (NO. 107), NEW YORK JETS In what turned out to be a coincidental situation, the Jets selected both Michael Carters in this draft—each from rival schools as one just so happened to be from Duke while the other attended North Carolina. In this context, I am referencing the North Carolina running back who most people thought would be selected much earlier. A pathway to seeing early touches is likely as he was amongst the best rushers in the country at breaking tackles, something that has helped many young runners thrive and experience early success as rookies. Also a reliable weapon as a pass-catcher, he could serve as a third-down option for new quarterback Zach Wilson early on during their rookie seasons.
I think he only breaks 2.1 tackles per 25 carries, well below Harris, Etienne and Williams. I'm not sure where the disconnect is in stats.
That's the type of back this system wants, fast, one cut and gone, elusive, but not the big bruser type that breaks tackles. He does break some tackles, however.
can't break a tackle when they don't get a hand on you. carter isn't a speed or power guy, he's a shift vision guy with high agility. his feet and change of direction are redicilous
According to this snippet from an article by Connor Hughes at The Athletic: The future of La’Mical Perine The Jets used a fourth-round pick on Perine last year, a favorite of then-coach Adam Gase. He had a so-so rookie season, rushing for 232 yards and two touchdowns (3.6 yards per carry) in 10 games. This is just my opinion, but every time I look at the running back rotation, I see Perine as the odd man out. He wasn’t impactful as a rookie, nor is he a scheme fit. As mentioned above, LaFleur wants players with speed to get to the perimeter, put their foot in the ground, then cut up the field. Here were some of the negatives listed on Perine on his NFL.com draft profile: Tends to run with monotonous tempo, allowing linebackers to find him Lacks desired burst to accelerate both inside and outside Drops head and plows forward prematurely rather than resetting rush path at times Douglas loves his draft picks, but if Perine was more of a Gase selection, New York might move on after training camp.
Watch that video I posted from the Sr Bowl at ~1min mark when he carried the D into the end zone. Everybody on that field is auditioning for the NFL but he just wanted it more I remember watching that game live and thinking "that's my RB!"
I think several others have already mentioned it, but I agree. Perine is on thin ice. Adams and Johnson both looked better than him last season. Tevin Coleman is the veteran of the group and would be shocked if he got cut. We just drafted Carter so he isn't going anywhere. The only way Perine sticks is if a few of these guys go down with injuries during training camp/pre-season. It is going to be a VERY competitive backfield this summer. The cream will rise to the top.
I would like the Jets to have a bulldozer in the RB room. Josh Adams sample size is a little small but he broke a tackle every 7.3 attempts which is quite good so maybe he could be it.
