I would like to hear your thoughts on this. Are we going with what we have at QB or is JD going to bring in another QB to camp? Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
I vote Mullens and a huge "no" to Hoyer. https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/backup-quarterback-thread-poll.95693/
Douchebag suggests getting Foles from Chicago as a veteran backup/insurance, now that they have Fields. Not a terrible idea. https://www.espn.com/blog/new-york/...is-veteran-qb-to-complete-project-zach-wilson
Nick Foles is not a bad choice. Zach could definitely learn from him. Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
I'm not sure that Foles is the right guy, but I do agree they should sign a vet and let Zach sit and learn a bit.
One of the advantages Zach allegedly had over other QB options at his draft slot was his “pro readiness”. Why should he sit? He’s the 2nd overall pick. Trevor Lawrence isn’t sitting.
Patrick Mahomes was on a team that lost only 2 games the year before with a QB that was a MVP candidate. Conversely, we won only 2 games and have James Morgan. In what world are these situations similar?
I agree and I think that's the plan but every time I see clips of him and his slight frame I think damn we will always need a competent backup.
You're right, they're not similar...the fact that Mahomes sat on a team despite them having a proven OL and weapons, makes all the more logical to have Wilson sit for a bit so the OL and weapons can gel and he can be better prepared.
Are you really suggesting we know as much about Morgan as the Jets” staff does? My understanding is that Morgan was a Gase pick. He’s a huge football nerd who loves to draw up plays. Probably why he was drafted with one of the free picks we got from trading back in the 2nd. This is a system designed to make the QBs lives easier. While a vet presence makes sense, I’m not convinced it’s needed.
You’re right, they’re not similar. Mahomes was touted as wildly talented yet everyone agreed he was raw and needed time to develop. While people are saying Wilson is highly talented, I haven’t heard anyone call him raw or suggest he needs time to develop.
No but I'm suggesting that the knowledge that the Jets have that we don't is probably insufficient to determine whether Morgan is capable of starting in the NFL.
Where did you get that understanding? I've never seen anything that even remotely suggested that. If it's true, then why did Morgan never see the field. If Gase wanted him, you'd think he'd want to give him some playing time
I'm a Morgan guy, but I don't think Gase had any use for him whatsoever given the dire straights the team and his job was in last year. We're talking about Gase's staff, not LaFleur's. Maybe the new staff can get something out of him but Morgan doesn't have forever to show he can play. Yes Morgan needs the chance to show what he has, but if and when he does play, he had better bring his A-game that day. As I have zero expectations for the Jets this year other than winning more than 2 games, it wouldn't bother me one bit if Morgan was the #2 QB. I've been advocating for Morgan to play or at least suit up since he got here.
it was from one of the “Official Jets Podcasts” on the New York Jets YouTube channel. I’ll try and find out the exact episode for you. He was wanted Bc he was a football nerd and would be a good guy to have in the QB room. I assume Gase wanted to keep his job so would sooner start a proven vet over an unproven rookie.
Trotting Bortles or Hoyer out their is basically saying “fuck you” to everyone else on offense. Upgrade the QB room even if it means spending some money to do so.
