Guy’s a hybrid S/LB...been drafting a lot of hybrids in the later rounds. Our D is going to be very interesting.
This is a cool pick. I'm obviously very familiar with him as I am an alumni of FSU and follow them as close as I do the Jets. Solid pick with a ton of potential
Nasrildeen is a football player through and through. This was my favorite pick of the last day. He tackles everything. I think he has a successful career as a coverage linebacker in the NFL
AN interesting article that outlines strengths and weaknesses of Sherwood and Nas. Between the two of them one will stick as WILL next year and moving forward. https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/the-top-11-safeties-in-the-2021-draft-class/
The awesome part about the two picks is that the Jets tried to do this with Darron Lee five years ago yet they spent first round capital on him. This regime took a much better approach on the hybrid conversion strategy.
likens himself to Kam Chancellor. So I’m sure he will be molded for that similar type of role here in a cover 3.
Quote from the Connor Hughes article at The Athletic: The potential is there The Jets will run a 4-3 defense for the first time since Herm Edwards coached the team from 2001 through 2005. The switch should be seamless for the secondary and defensive line, but the Jets needed to acquire linebackers this weekend. Veteran Jarrad Davis and C.J. Mosley man the strong and middle positions, but the Jets had just Blake Cashman to play the weak side. On the third day of the draft, they added Jamien Sherwood and Hamsah Nasirildeen. The wild thing: Neither played linebacker last year. Sherwood and Nasirildeen were safeties. They spent a lot of time in the box, but there’s a difference between that and being an every-down linebacker. The conversion will take some time, but if the two can make it, the Jets will have absurd athleticism at the position, especially with Nasirildeen. Many viewed him as a second- or third-round pick had it not been for an ACL injury that cost him a large portion of the 2020 season. He needs to gain some weight (he played at 215), but if he can, he will allow the Jets to do so much more on defense. One more interesting note: Saleh, on Saturday, was asked about the two converting to linebacker. He said he had a few conversations about that transition with 49ers GM John Lynch. Lynch was a Hall of Fame safety but played linebacker toward the end of his career with the Broncos. Lynch told Saleh one thing that helped him was that, after breaking the huddle, he’d walk back to his normal safety spot, then move down to linebacker. It was mental, but it helped. Saleh said he’d advise Nasirildeen and Sherwood to do the same until they get used to playing the position.
Plus both of these guys could probably eat Darron Lee alive in a street fight. I find myself being more intrigued to see these guys develop than I am most of the offensive players that were drafted earlier. This guy is going to be known to everyone as Hamsah I think, I don't see too many people typing Nasirildeen.
