Right now, our quarterbacks are Wilson, Morgan, and Mike White. Unless the Jets know something about Morgan that none of us do (which I can't see as possible considering Morgan hasn't even played in a preseason game), Douglas is essentially forcing Saleh to start Wilson Week 1 whether Wilson is ready or not. Imagine if Saleh thinks Wilson should sit at first and starts Morgan, and the Jets end up getting humiliated because Morgan turns out not to be an NFL-caliber QB. That would be unacceptable, so IMO the Jets need to sign or trade for a veteran backup QB. Given that, which one do you want? Some of the QBs in this poll are free agents, and others aren't; trading for one of them would require probably giving up a late-rounder.
I think we will wait and see who shakes free after the draft - I wouldn't want to trade for a vet when we need all the picks that we can get for the rebuild
I thought he resigned with 49ers or someone. If not yeah he may be a good choice. Else I go with a more proven QB to work with Wilson like Foles.
This will be Morgan's last stand with the Jets. Gase had zero use for him last year and that might have been a FU to JD for drafting him. We already know Mike White is at best, marginal. We don't know anything at all about Morgan so hopefully, LeFleur will at least let Morgan suit up and (gasp), take a snap.
Foles will likely be released at some point, he’d be my top option if he does. If not Hoyer or Mullens are fine to hold the clipboard.
I voted for Mullens because he knows the system that LaFleur is going to implement. I like Foles but would not trade for him. If he's released, then I would sign him. But I like the plan that JD and the staff are putting together. I haven't been this excited since we drafted Pennington, Ellis, Abraham, and Becht.
Gase was trying to save his job and career, so he had no interest in giving Morgan or any other young player snaps if he didn't have to.
Hoyer knows the system too. Mullens seems like a natural, but he isn't very accurate, so if he starts initially, he might get some of our WRs injured or leave them very frustrated. Minshew is the best QB of the bunch, so I voted for him, but wouldn't want to have to trade for him unless we could use one of our 6ths. Hopefully, he'll be released following the draft. If not, then I think it will probably be Hoyer.
Man I was excited to see RG3 against the Steelers on the covid-Ravens and he's just straight up shot. As far as the poll goes - Nacho is on ESPN a lot and still looks pretty spry.
Foles will not be released, there is 14m CAP hit on him. He could only be traded, and it is a two year contract. If he is traded to the Jets, he counts against our CAP for 4 mil each of next two years. Not unreasonable, so it is possibility if Chicago wants nothing back. Still, I would not count on it as we have Morgan on the roster, whom we drafted to be a back-up and any QB that comes in at this point would be for a year, while Foles is a two year commitment.
If our goal is to save the season and our playoffs incase Zack goes down for a week or two, then yes, get a good vet in here. But our goal is not to save our SB run, our goal is to draft well in 2022 and finish our rebuild. Last thing I want is for a vet to step in and win 2 meaningless games pushing us down into the teens. Morgan had a full season to sit/learn (albeit not as the BU). But this is his year. New coaches, New offense, New starting QB. Morgan and Zack learning the new offense side by side, Zach starts, Morgan BU. Use that 3-5 million somewhere else. Go Jets!
