Mel Kiper lists the Jets as a loser

Mel Kiper was laughed at by NFL people thirty plus years ago and he is still laughed at today. He is stubborn, clueless and out of touch with what NFL people think.

kiper deserves credit for helping grow and hype the draft. But, he is a media personality not an expert only one very small step above Cowherd and Bayless. He is just noise without substance.

 

He analyzes and writes draft reports on 500+ (probably more) prospects for thirty years. He's not laughed at. He's the top draft guy at the top sports company in the world.

He's just in the world of scrutinization and praise so he'll be remembered more for his big misses than his big hits.

Kiper also notoriously bashes the Jets so it's no surprise Jets fans say things like "Kiper's a moron!"

With any of these guys after Lawrence you have maybe a 35/65 chance they will prove out. Make calls on enough of them over the years and you are going to build up a real backlog of guys that you thought were good but failed and guys you thought would fail but turned out ok or even great.

In a lot of cases the context in which the guy is groomed and plays will ultimately be more important than his physical talent or mental acuity in terms of whether he works out or not.

Right now with Zach Wilson the Jets are hoping that LaFleur is a QB whisperer, because if he is not the chances that Wilson works out fade some and they were never great to begin with.

 

Mel Kiper is about as relevant today as......pay phones.

Cartoon character, bloat, who espn, which is absolute trash, pumps up....espn and Kiper are unwatchable

 

Its very similar with Kramer and stocks. When you give that many opinions every day some of them are going to inevitably be spectacularly wrong.

When it comes to this one though its the Jets. So with our luck he'll probably be spot on.

Yup, exactly. It's similar to the Cimini criticism. Gee I wonder why media talking heads have criticized the franchise and it's drafting for a decade. They've been right...

 

For sure, the only reason he comes off as an idiot is because he does the classic ESPN “this is high drama and I’ll yell about it with as much conviction as a Baptist preacher!” Schtick.
