Overall I like the draft, but the trade up turned out to be a bad move. Essentially it turned into Alijah Vera Tucker for Christian Darrisaw, Davis Mills, and Wyatt Davis. Perhaps it works out, but it’s a bad process.
Disagree. AVT is a great scheme fit, he's polished and ready to contribute in both the run and pass game immediately, and will make Becton better. The Bills, Dolphins, and Pats all added a player to their Defensive font 7 in the first two rounds. If you want our rookie QB to develop, AVT is a better investment than all three of those guys.
but why? Would you rather have top tier prospects or a bunch of decent players? AVT was regarded as the best guard in this class by far. not sure why all the hoopla over getting top talent instead of getting a bunch of decent player in the grand scheme here.
through three rounds we got three top rated players at positions of need and that equates to JD screwing up? Dear fucking God...
Many draft experts considered Darrisaw the best pass blocking tackle in the draft. And AVT was not regarded as the best guard in the class by far; multiple draft experts have said Slater will move to guard and he was almost universally rated higher in mock drafts. Nobody knows who is going to be a better player (and I hope it winds up being AVT), but I'd rather have three cracks at hitting on a great player than one. The better comparison is Darrisaw and two of these four (Jaylen Mayfield, Brady Christensen, Wyatt Davis, and Kendrick Green)
Disagree AVT might have been the safest pick in the draft along with Trevor and Pitts--you go get guys like that. Basically like getting a prized free agent. It's painful to wait this long, but I'll take some delayed gratification on this one.
Yeah I can go with that. I'm not sure I'd have taken guard at all these spots though. Could have gotten Davis or Green at 86, so I'd have taken another positional need at 66.
Your concern is the Jets didn't get Davis Mills? This thought didn't need it's own thread, could have easily been a comment in the AVT thread or the Day 2 draft thread......
Most have Slater as a tackle. At this point I trust JD. The guy clearly knows what he’s doing. Sit back and relax
The Statistics never lie, just Google it: The first round gives you a 63% chance of finding a Starter; 2nd round 27%; 3rd round 17% After that the Elevator really drops>>8% in 4th round and 6 per cent in 7th To answer the OP : Darrisaw, Mills, and Davis each would only have a 17% projection as a good player/starter Hmm..so with your GM career on the line what do you think ya doin?? Trade up if you can afford it!
Giving away the thirds didn't buy us a first round selection. It simply gave away two thirds. If we took Dickerson or Humphry at 23, according to your chart, he would be a 63%'er. Plus we'd have two 3rds. As a general rule, when your rebuilding you don't give picks for players. We turned 5 picks into 3 picks in the first 3 rounds. Not a great rebuild move unless your getting a pro bowler. If he becomes a pro bowler, more the better. If Davis or Green go on to have a comparable career to Tucker it will go down as one of our notable bad moves.
I disagree. The bottom line was that JD was not going to get fired by doing the same dumb shit previous Jet GMs did He is going to shoot is load on offense and give Wilson the best chance to be successful.. The defense is probably going to still suck but at least I know we will be able to score some touchdowns. Watching the Jets on offense last year was just painful. Even my wife who knows dick about football said the Jets Offense sucked. Hopefully they can find a bargain RB and CB tomorrow as those are too more of the Jets needs.
And of course if AVT doesn't work out because the NFL is the NFL then JD royally screwed the pooch here.
Nope , they had the capital. They coveted AVT and went and got their man with out giving the house . It was a smart strategic move .
This draft has been perfect and has been everything I hoped it would be. Wall for Wilson Weapon for Wilson Keep Going JD!
