Can we even make a top ten best picks list lol The Mangold/Brick year was our best draft bar none, at least in the modern era...how many times do you get two borderline HOF offensive linemen in the same draft? Some of the drafts in the late '70's and early '80's were pretty good too but there were also a lot more rounds then. Keyshawn for all the crap he brought on himself had a solid enough career (800+ catches, 10000+ yards, 60+ TD's) as a #1 and didn't bust like so many of our other high picks.
Ohhh I been lurking around ever since 2004 I believe . I will be posting more . Yes the way the Jet fans treated Chad , I will never forgive .
The worst of all time was 2003 when Boobway traded 2 number 1s and a 4th rounder for DT Dwayne Robertson. One of those 1st round picks was a compensation pick from Washington since Boobway failed to protect WR L. Coles with a first and third round tender. Coles WAS the jets MVP (as voted by his teammates) the previous year in 2002.. Therefore, Boobway essentially traded away our team MVP from the year before, AND our first round pick in 2003 AND our 4th round pick for Robertson, a short squat DL who never did squat.
That one is on my short list for sure. The other one that really sticks in my craw is Parcells’ first draft. DESPERATE for viable NFL WRs we take Keyshawn first overall. Great. But then, “Mr. Groceries” picks Alex freakin’ Van Dyke two picks ahead of Amani Toomer!!! Imagine how our offense could have looked with Keyshawn and Toomer outside, and Chrebet in the slot. I think I saw Van Dyke catch a pass once. Maybe. I don’t know.
I think the funniest thing about the Nugent situation was that they panic drafted him to address Doug Brien and the guy goes on to have a career that's very similar to Doug Brien's minus the playoffs ending miss.
I was furious over that WR Van Dyke selection when made because we already had Chrebet, Keyshaun, and newly signed free agent Jeff Graham. I wanted Tony Brakkens or Mike Alstott with that pick and they were grabbed about one or two picks later. As I recall, though, it was Kotite who picked Van Dyke in 1996, and then Parcells took over in 1997.
Ah yes, my girl has small boobs and a flat ass, my friend is dating a chick with a beautiful ass and bazookas - time to find me the same type of chick. But unfortunately, only going for the bazookas and the nice ass netted me a dirty whore who can't socialize with my friends and embarrasses me with my family. The Jets are "me" in this situation, by the way. It's not "ME".
Much of this was the result of owner Leon Hess’ “family values” directive. It’s also why the Jets never had cheerleaders, as he felt that they weren’t “conducive to the family atmosphere”. His directive to the GMs was that any taint, as determined by him, was not to be permitted. And a big part why the Jets haven’t won in 50+ years And the JL Jones story is a sad one. Apparently he had some substance abuse problem in college but was able to kick them. When he got to the Jets, apparently “rookie hazing” got him back into using, and caused a downward spiral that help kill his career. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk on
Wasn't the Jeff Lageman pick the pick Chris Russo went bonkers over, earning him the nickname of Mad Dog?
Alex Van Dyke led the NCAA in receptions that year. I don't know why he didn't succeed, but I don't remember him getting on the field very often, except maybe on ST. Agree it was a very curious pick given we just took Keyshawn.
I thought Robertson had a short stint where he played pretty well under Herm. When Mangini came in he and Vilma were overmatched in the 3-4 in addition to his knee problems. That front 4 that included Johnny Abe, Ferguson, Robertson and Ellis was pretty pretty good.
