https://www.nj.com/jets/2021/04/nfl...-are-about-to-pick-the-wrong-quarterback.html He is really high on Mac Jones, compared his skillset to Tom Brady's when Brady came out of Michigan, implied that everyone gets too caught up in a QB's ability to run. Made the case for taking Jones and not Wilson at # 2 when directly asked by Siciliano.
haha it's good to see you again DarkKnight. and I agree....it is absurd how Jones has skyrocketed up the draft board over the course of the past 2 months.
If nothing else, Jones has the ability to be a great game manager. He showed great accuracy last season, decent instincts, and lets not forget leading his team to a national championship. That is success against NFL level talent and the kind of experience that cant be coached. Everyone says Jones succeeded because he was on a much better team but Wilson succeeded against the 113th hardest schedule with a team ranked 11th. Both QBs faced similar talent disparities vs their opponents - but again - Jones' was against NFL level talent while Wilson was against guys who will be selling shoes this season. Jones is a far safer pick then Wilson.
I remember the Hard Knocks season when they brought Joe in on a photo op and he was trying to tell Sanchez how to hold the ball. They were looking at him like a nice old man.
I love Namath. He can do no wrong. But regarding this, he's pretty much just a fan with some biases (Bama) he's not some insider doing intensive scouting. His word doesn't mean much
Jones into a WCO seems like a logical choice, just not at #2 overall. The thing that keeps getting dropped in the conversations is that #2 needs to be a great player, potentially a generational talent. The Jets need a QB so everybody dives into which of the QB's they think is best and completely ignores the requirement that the #2 pick actually be a great player not just the best QB available. Yes, the Jets have been missing a QB for awhile now. You know what else we have been missing? Great game-changing players. Let's get one of those this year and find the QB down the road when our talent base will actually support him and be capable of being elevated by him. Whenever Darnold opened the elevator door all he saw was empty shaft in front of him and way too often he jumped...
I totally agree. Neither Wilson or Jones are worth the 2nd pick. The second pick is usually the most dominant non QB in the draft. Its a team changing player. The last good QB taken with the 2nd pick was 1999. Its hard to defend JD when our course with the second pick feels so desperate and risky (and risky is a polite way of saying its stupid).
Just because Joe was right about 1 game, doesn't mean he's infallible. He also loved shag rugs and drinking too much. I like Jones, but not enough to pass on Wilson.
