Nirvana's Nevermind album (1991) is closer in time to the Beatles 1st appearance on the Ed Sullivan show (1964) than it is to today (2021)
Tell me about it BN. My boys are 15 now. At 15, I was on a boarding school back in Turkey which seems like yesterday. Dang
There are college men & women that weren't even born yet when 9/11 hit. To them its like our fathers' telling us about Pearl Harbor
Right now we have a generation that doesn't understand the internet and a generation that only understands the internet. The baby boomers and post millennials might as well have been born on different planets.
And shame on the boomers who know nothing of millennials and shame on the millennials who know nothing of the boomers. Insularity is a curse.
I actually think the pandemic has been a game changer. It's forced a lot of people who were not screen comfortable to become more so. True story: I got on Facebook in the mid-00's because my nieces and nephews talked me into it so they could better relay their x-mas and birthday wish lists (well that's not what they said). Then Facebook became the grandparents favorite communication tool and just like that the nieces and nephews lit out for better virtual hangouts. This left me talking to the grandparents and all their friends virtually when I much preferred just getting in the car and driving in for a visit. Now the nieces and nephews are a bit older and wiser and they're back on Facebook again, a place that I abandoned a decade ago when they all moved on to other places. And of course they're all asking me to rejoin Facebook so they can better relay their x-mas and birthday wish lists (well, again not exactly how they'd put it.) I think I'm just going to guess on gifts as opposed to getting baited-and-switched again.
Am I the only one who asks for suggestions for gifts and gets what appears to be an order blank including every detail? How about a "basketball," not a "Spalding MJ 3 P-23 Indoor/Outdoor."
That I could handle. It's the requests for specific basketball shoes, sometimes quite hard to find that throw me.
That goes without saying...and the ones you might find are $150. What about limited edition jerseys in special colors? You want shoes? I'll get ya shoes; you want a shirt, I'll get ya a shirt. Keep it up and all you'll get is a very very slightly worn Tebow. With printed numbers. Or underwear. Punk!
And for those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s, have lived through so much change in the last 50 years it’s like having lived multiple lifetimes.
