You're probably right. My memory isn't the best. I just remember he had an All Pro LT in Richmond Webb and had Clayton and Duper, and the Killer Bs always seemed to kill us except for a few games where Kenny O'B, Wesley Walker and company had big games.
you left out that a big part of the reason that byu was in that game was their RB allgeier, who avg over eight yards a carry that game (and over 7.5 ypg for the season) if they run him 30 times as opposed to throwing 30 times, they probably win that game easily
He's not the sole reason for a win or loss. But big time players have big time games in prime positions. Lawrence versus Alabama, Mayfield in so many spots, Fields versus Clemson + Michigan, Tua's comeback against Georgia, Watson against Alabama, etc. The fact that he only played OK and it comes with a bevy of excuses (he had a touchdown called back! They played them on short notice!) is not good.
Because I highlighted their showcase games. His game against the juggernaut that was Alabama wasn't that much different than Wilson's performance against Coastal Carolina. Slightly worse sure. Much better team that was clearly overmatched. Similar to Lawrence versus LSU. The whole squad got railroaded. What showcase game does Wilson have? Lighting up UCF that also got shredded by Jordan McCloud a week earlier? The same guy that didn't break 70 yards passing against the Citadel and got benched several times throughout the year...
That is the problem you are analyzing game results instead of plays and abilities. Mac Jones is your guy then. Never lost, best QBR ever recorded. Performed against top teams. Clutch.

You should always say what you believe and what your eyes show you, but that doesn't mean that Douglas will be wrong on Wilson just because you don't see it. I agree though, you shouldn't just go with a player just because Chris Simms tells you to. I see great qualities and potential in Wilson, but I see it in Fields and Lance too.
The latter is a bold claim. If a team invests a high pick in him he'll see some snaps regardless if he's good or not.
