I'm happy for Sam, but it is a little alarming and pathetic how many "YAY! I AM NOT A JET ANYMORE" celebration videos and posts we have seen in recent years. Not a good look for the franchise.

Time for Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas to reverse that trend and make players happy and eager to be Jets.

All it takes is wins and good leadership. Let's hope we finally nail it right this time.

Would you really rather have 3d rounder this year over 2nd and 4th next year, plus 6th this year?

For that matter, can we even say that SF traded 3 first round picks for 3d overall? After all, two of these picks are next year and a year after and have little value? Was Adams traded for two first round picks? They were a year/two later, so value is low? No, trade chart is for high level reference, but when you got 3 picks, one of which is second rounder, you can't say we got an equivalent of a 3d rounder overall, no matter what metrics is being used.

You can also make the argument that next year's draft will be an easier one to evaluate all conferences in play at the start of the year with a normal training camp, off season and schedule.

Using the value chart to say a 2nd next year is worth less than a 3rd next year is about the dumbest logic I've ever heard.

what I would rather have is irrelevant I was just speaking factually about the value of the picks. What if that 3rd rounder this year is a great player that fell and makes a pro bowl as a rookie and helps us make the playoffs this year before any of the other picks step on the field. and then the picks next year are busts. you can't play the what if game. I was talking about the overall value of what we got for sam

would you trade your 1st this year for a 1st next year to a team of similar talent. like say trade our 23rd pick this year back to Seattle for their 1st next year?
That's the point of the value. nobody would do that.

Money has value simply because we say it does. 100 dollars is 100 dollars because it is. products have cost because they do. it's all negotiable and a good purchase of 20 bucks is better then a bad purchase of 100 bucks. but you still have to assign a value. how you eventually use that value is what determines if it was well spent or not. you can't throw out value or none of it works. it's an economy.

How many teams trade a future first round pick to move up in the second round?

You're trying to pigeonhole this into a value chart that's based on completely subjective values and it's silly. Of course the variable is that the pick has yet to be determined but you can view the current rosters, divisional opposition, schedule, etc. and feel pretty comfortable that it'll likely be in the teens.

I don’t really have an issue with the future picks...it sets up a great stable of picks next year...yes future picks are worth less than current picks but it’s subjective as to how much less. Since we have a bunch of picks this year already, and a team can really only absorb so many rookies (yet another indictment against Idzik when he could have used some of his 14 picks to trade up), taking future picks instead of this year makes some sense.

JD just needs to nail his picks. I’d give his first draft a solid B so far, but he’ll need to really knock it put this year.

it's happened a few times where a team traded their future 1st for a current 2nd rounder to take a player they like.

Same thing just happened with the darnold trade due to the value. JD wanted a 2nd and 4th nothing less. carolina wasn't willing to give that up for this year but said they would give up next years 2nd and 4th. JD with no other options agreed if they threw in a 6th this year

the chart is a base point. think of it like a flea market. it's a starting point then negotiated from there. you want this it's 20 bucks i'll give you 10 how about 15 etc etc but you need a baseline or else it all goes to shit

Is it much different than Lawson being excited to be a Jet, this is the shit that happens when you swap teams, fuck the old and hello to the new and let's face it what did Sam have to regret about leaving NYJ, if he read any message board out there he will be giving us the finger right about now lol

the TLDR of the trade is

many teams called, JD listened but wasn't ready to move. He was ok going into 2021 with sam at QB. liked him better then fields, jones, and lance. The wildcard was wilson. He didn't want to move darnold unless he fell in love with wilson and even then considered keeping both. His asking price for sam was a 2nd and 4th and not getting that he would have kept both (rivers/brees situation)

Went to wilsons pro day, fell in love with him. thinks he's special. is ready to move on from sam if his offer gets met but still a fan of sam and sam has many fans in the jets org.

talked with panthers GM at wilsons pro day. panthers didn't want to give up picks this year

panthers were desperate to upgrade QB. sitting at 8 and knowing the top 3 are going to be off the board for sure any maybe even top 4 decided trade was best way. Rhule loves sam. was a reason he considered coaching here. thinks he has a ton of talent. someone in the panthers org (can't remember who) was with seattle during the 2018 draft. there was a possibility of them trading wilson to the browns for a package that included 1st overall pick and was going to draft sam with it but the trade fell through.

panthers said they'll give up a 2nd and 4th but only for next year. JD agreed if they threw in a 6th this year as well. Deal was done

When has it happened? You don't need to keep making analogies man lol. I get what the value chart is and how it would relate to real world applications. I just don't think it's correct nor do I think NFL teams look at it much.

    2007 draft

    Colts trade up with 49ers

Indianapolis Colts: Acquire pick No. 42 (selected OT Tony Ugoh).
San Francisco 49ers: Acquire pick No. 126 (fourth round) and Colts' first-round pick in 2008.

    https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft07/news/story?id=2850327

Colts really liked Tony Ugoh and didn't have a 2nd rounder. they traded their 2008 1st rounder and 2007 4th rounder for the niners 2007 2nd rounder (42nd overall) and drafted ugoh.

That's all you got? One trade 13 years ago? That doesn't justify the trade value chart of devaluing future picks because of an isolated anecdotal trade.

Definitely an anti Jets agenda in the media.

Apparently Sam Darnold is at minimum as good as Ryan Tannehil and the Jets got fleeced

Good riddance. Carolina is in for a rude awakening if they feel this guy is some hidden gem. He will be Carolinas weakest link on offense.

many trades happen in the NFL there are more examples. when trading for s future pick during the draft the team trading for it almost always gives 1 round higher then the team giving it away. here are a few more from recent drafts

    2020
    1) Cleveland traded its third- (No. 74) and seventh-round (No. 244) draft picks to New Orleans for the Saints’ third-round (No. 88) pick and a 2021 third-round pick. New Orleans selected Zack Baun, lb, Wisconsin and later traded No. 244 to Minnesota. Cleveland selected Jordan Elliott, dt, Missouri.

in this one cleveland moves down 14 spots for a future 3rd rounder
220 to 150 value wise. the 7th is worth 2 points. thats 68 points to make up which is the value they set for the future 3rd rounder. 68 points is the value of a middle 4th rounder in the current draft (pick 113 is worth 68 points which is round 4 pick 17) thats a 1 round devaluation

    2) Minnesota traded its fifth-round (No. 155) pick to Chicago for a 2021 fourth-round pick. Minnesota selected Trevis Gipson, de, Tulsa.
    again 1 round devaluation

    3) Tennessee traded its seventh-round (No. 237; from New England) pick to Kansas City for a 2021 sixth-round pick. Kansas City selected Thakarius Keyes, cb, Tulane.
    again 1 round devaluation

    4) Houston traded its seventh-round (No. 240) pick to New Orleans for a 2021 sixth-round pick. New Orleans selected Tommy Stevens, qb, Mississippi State.
    again 1 round devaluation

that's all the future picks traded last year and all 4 were devalued 1 round.

    2019
    1)
    Steelers receive:
» 2019 first-round pick (No. 10; select LB Devin Bush)

    Broncos receive:
» 2019 first-round pick (No. 20; select TE Noah Fant)
    » 2019 second-round pick (No. 52; trade to Bengals)
    » 2020 third-round pick
» (full trade details: click here.)

    10 is worth 1300
20 is worth 850 so that's 450 to make up for sliding back
the 2nd is worth 380 leaving 70 left
70 is worth pick 112 in the 4th ( round 4 pick 16) meaning 1 round devaluation for the future 3rd

    2)
    Saints receive:
    » 2019 second-round pick (No. 48; select Erik McCoy)
    » 2019 fourth-round pick (No. 116; trade to Tennessee)

    Dolphins receive:
    » 2019 second-round pick (No. 62; trade to Cardinals)
» 2019 sixth-round pick (No. 202; select WR Isaiah Prince)
    » 2020 second-round pick

    48 is worth 420 116 is worth 62 a total of 482 given up
    62 is worth 284 and 202 is worth 10 a total of 294. thats 188 to make up. 188 is round 3 pick 16-17
    again 1 round devaluation

I can keep going but I think it's pretty clear that NFL teams do use the chart and past trades as a barometer which also followed the chart. it's the way value is set. thats the last 6 trades made using future picks and current picks only in the NFL and all 6 devalue the future pick by a round to a T. no exception.

edit: there was only 1 more trade for future picks in 2019

    Seahawks, Jaguars make another deal
    Seahawks receive:
    » 2019 seventh-round (No. 236; select WR John Ursua)

    Jaguars receive:
    » 2020 sixth-round pick

    again 1 round devalue.

Every single trade over the past 2 years made for future picks devalued them by 1 round. how much more evidence do you need to see it's correct?

it's clickbait nonsense. the reality is both teams benefited greatly

the jets get to draft a new QB and get him on a cheap rookie deal at pick 2 and they love wilson. he's the new face of the franchise. they had to move sam and JD got what he wanted which was similar to the precedent set by the cards trading rosen after they drafted murray.

The panthers get a 23YO former top 3 pick QB with tons of talent for a very reasonable price tag and it was the only chance they had to upgrade the QB position because sitting at 8 wasn't good enough to land one of the top 3 or even 4 Qbs
