IN light of the darnold trade it's clear we are drafting a QB 2nd overall. we also have no other QBs outside of morgan who has never taken a snap and has only been in the league 1 year as a 4th round pick. We need a veteran QB who can mentor wilson. I think alex smith would be perfect for it. he's beloved in the league, respected by players, former 1st overall pick. Came back form a brutal injury where he almost lost his leg and if need be can still play in spot duty.

I think he'd be perfect to bring in and also knows the offensive system obviously.

Of course as a jet fan you still have to worry that we don't draft a QB and we start james morgan

I want a stop gap and Alex Smith is the right move but I'd be lying if I said it was exciting. He plays the most boring (albeit gives his team a chance) brand of quarterback in the world.

obviously we need to sign a veteran...who else is out there other than Smith? Anyone who has ran LaFleur's offense?

Is Nick Mullens available? He knows the system and could hold the fort until Wilson or Fields is ready.

yes he does but the point isn't for him to be our future or even current starter. he brings a lot to the team and locker room even without throwing a pass

Alex Smith is definitely not a bad idea.
Let him start for a year, maybe the guy we draft will turn out like the last guy that sat behind him for a year.

he is and I liked him as a back-up to sam but i'd rather get a veteran in to mentor our rookie

No Sam's ceiling is wheeling and dealing like his ginger brother in Dalton.

Like Ron Rivera, I worry everytime he goes back to throw the ball. I don't want that risk here

Would be interesting signing Smith. He had Kap take over for him in SF and lead them to a SB, then Mahomes take over for him in KC and lead them to a SB and then he would have Wilson take over for him in NY and hopefully do the same.

Or out of the blue JD trades the second pick this year plus a second rounder next year for Russel Wilson

    I’m definitely onboard for Smith.

He’s terrible...Play the rookie or Morgan if he’s ready

not interested in watching unexciting garbage for a season

he wouldn't play unless shit hit the fan. he'd mentor and backup wilson and morgan. basically a QB coach in uniform. not to mention his locker room presence and leadership and familiarity with the system

Yeah without saying it, that's what I was getting at. I don't really want to watch checkdown ball all year. Nice veteran to have around but I'd rather see Morgan honestly.

I feel bad for the guy but he’s actually horrendous at this point. Plus I cannot stand holding my breath every time he gets hit

Mullins is OK to fill the QB roster, but I’d prefer a Morgan/ rookie battle
