That's like saying that Fields couldn't possibly be a good QB because aside from Art Schlichter, OSU has never produced a good NFL QB.

    Good break down.

This is why I keep saying that keeping Darnold would be the best option unless they get a convincing (a 2021 second at least). He has an elite arm; he's strong; he can make plays off platform - in fact right now that's his best trait; and he's still only 23. BUT...can you really fix those issues? I'd say there's a good chance you can certainly improve them next year, and see more improvement over time, but it's not a guarantee. The thing is though that he's played in the NFL for three years, and while he should be further along, he HAS learned a lot, and he can make the right reads most of the time. No matter who they draft, making the right reads, getting up to NFL speed will be a major adjustment that Sam has already made.

Here's where I'm at: I want my cake and eat it too: I want the "shiny new QB", AND I want to keep Darnold to see if he can fulfill his potential. I'll be very disappointed if they trade out of #2, keep Sam, and pass on Wilson or Fields, but I'd still hold out hope that it could work.

QB position is a different metric all together. Many good qbs have come from schools that have not produced historically good qbs. Not to mention the QB position is one of the hardest positions to gauge in the NFL draft.

I'm talking about players in any position from that school. The list is endless

Elite arms don’t miss the throws he misses. Elite arms can overcome bad lower body mechanics; Sam’s arm can’t.

Do we REALLY need to go over all this again? We don't have long to wait until we find out which direction the team is going. Until then, isn't anyone sick of all this? I know I am.

No need to be insulting pal. I'm not asking you to repeat anything. Unless you want to cite his dead last in NFL stats. Judging from your response, I'd rather you didn't bother trying. You seem to lack the emotional stability to state a fact.

I totally disagree. Every year starting OL are drafted. What was he supposed to do? Aside from Thuney, G. Jackson, and K. Zeitler there were evidently no OGs available who JD thought were upgrades over Van Roten & Lewis, or worth the cap space. JD missed out on Zeitler while he was still trying to get Thuney. He made several increasing offers for Thuney. Jackson never hit FA, and JD may have received no notification that Jackson was even available until the trade was already finalized with the Seahawks. Even if he did, he may have thought Jackson's contract was too pricey. Jackson is 29, and while he could likely play at least another 2-3 years (if not more) at a high level, JD has shown that he is averse to handing out big contracts to older FAs and I applaud him for that. Even if he made a mistake in not trading for Jackson, as long as he adquately addresses the OL in the draft, then it really won't matter imo.

Funny how next year's crop of QB prospects is never any good until next year gets here.

Lawrence and Fields were the top prospects of their recruiting class IIRC. They were highly regarded in HS.

I guess reading the posts and the NFL media the Jets are going for the price on Wilson. Sam could have been a contender, could have has some class and played outdoors at the ballpark. Not your night kid.

Which is why the 49ers moved up to draft Mac Jones at # 3.

Spot on. I think Sam had one of the biggest hype trains ever making everyone think that he was MUCH better player and prospect than he ever was. That may be part of his problem. All the pressure that was on him to live up to the hype.

Bart Scott continues to say that Darnold is a franchise QB. It would seem to me that someone who played in and knows the NFL, might have more knowledge than the wanna be’s on this site.

Trade with Atlanta. Ask Matt Ryan and a 1st this year a first next year. Draft Pitts or Sewell with the 4th pick. Ride Matt Ryan for 2-3 years and make the Jets relevant. 10 years of futility is enough. I have been going to Jets games for more than 10 years now. I want playoffs man.
