Ideally, I agree. That said, often it's the "big bruisers' that get hurt the most because they haven't learned to avoid contact.
Frankly I think these "experts" were burned and learned their lesson. And the media learned as well. Of course, like all media trends, they're late to the party and try to make up for it with saturation.
I think it's fair to say that Sam's may be more impressive because it happened in a live game, but the fact that Wilson's throw was almost twice as long as Sam's makes it more difficult and impressive in another way. Also, were the receivers at the Pro Day, Wilson's normal receivers or were they guys that he had never thrown to before? I think I heard someone say that they were unfamiliar to him. If accurate, that definitely throws it to Wilson imo. After all Sam had been working with his receivers and their timing should have been down by that point.
Who knows? I'd like to think that maybe they learned something from the Mahomes situation and have wised up. I think the whole NFL has in that regard. I think Mahomes was the turning point. He made teams and media people see that they couldn't just dismiss a spread QB or one who played at Texas Tech, and that they had to look at the individual and what his traits are. Of course, knowing the media it could be something else. Maybe it's just fear that they'd wind up looking like horse's asses again, so decided to throw caution to the wind.
I wasn't including you. I can't remember all the names. Ouchy seems to, Kurt seems to, Br4d seems there are at least 5 more
Correction, it said in that King article that Wilson's dad played LB for the Utes. Still, the principle is the same. I think Wilson will add bulk as he gets older.
This is spot on. I have said this several times when I began watching film of him. If the Jets draft him, the first thing they tell him had better be, "No more of the stupid crap trying to hurdle tacklers or hurling your throwing shoulder into a defender. You will run out of bounds or slide, young man. Understood?"
I'd say only to Fields fans. If he'd done the same thing with a throw that Fields made, you'd probably think/feel the same way that we do. I definitely think it was a shot by Riddick at Wilson. It was petty and stupid.
I’m pretty sure Riddick has Wilson ranked ahead of Fields. If anything it was a tweet supporting Sam. If it’s a shot, it’s at the hyperbolic Wilson stans.
You could be right on that, either being a shot at all the hype, or in support of Sam. Either way, it was ridiculous imo. It was a weak and lame attempt at whatever he was trying to say/accomplish.
JD unable to engineer trade down from #2 is biggest question mark i have with him. good thing he has one month. any competent GM would be salivating at the opportunity to stock up on this kind of draft capital. Reaching for an overhyped QB is not the way to build a team. There will be prototypical sized and arm FQB in the next 2-3 drafts. 100% guaranteed. Why not build the team and then trade the farm to draft that guy. especially since Darnold is still under contract. you accumulated picks to draft talent. Wilson is not prototypical size and has only 1 year resume. zero big game resume. Fields atleast has shown his will in big game scenarios. this is Trubisky-esque and atleast he had the prototypical size and arm. sidenote: Mahomes can throw 60yds on one knee. remember? Wilson arm is not that level elite. lol. calm down now.
I'm about to watch this thanks....but b/4 I hear what Peter King has to say, I need to remind myself that 2 weeks ago Peter King, on the same show (PFT) said the Jets need to trade whatever it took (4-5 first round picks, etc) to get Deshaun Watson. NOTHING has changed about Zack during this time frame...if he thinks Zack is soooo good NOW, where was this opinion 2 weeks ago when he thought we should trade our future for Watson???? Shouldn't King have been telling the Jets to save their king's ransom and just draft Zack Wilson? Ok...I'm off to hear what King has to say...thanks!
Unable to engineer a trade down? ROFLMAO!!! Do you have proof of this? If so, we want links, names and teams. If not, knock it off with that crap. Did it ever occur to you that maybe he has no interest in trading down? Even if he was interested in trading down, one gets more if teams contact you, not if you contact them seeking a trade down. If he takes Wilson or Fields, that isn't reaching. You're entitled to your opinion no matter how ridiculous and bad it may be. Because NO NFL team looks to build their team first and then find a QB. QB is the most important position, and they look to find that first if they can, and then build around him. No NFL team wants to have to trade a haul of draft picks to try to get a QB. They don't want to give up all the picks, and they know that they're at other team's mercy. They have to find a team willing to trade down, they know that even then they may be drafting the 2nd, 3rd or lower-ranked QB in the draft at that point and paying a premium for it, and they pretty much have to give that team what they want for the privilege of paying up and taking that QB. Building the team first, is backwards and dumb. NFL teams only do it when they have no choice, when they're not in position to draft a QB they really like and want, and either don't have the draft capital and resources to satisfy the higher team or aren't willing to give up all those resources. It is NOT a wise or valid way to rebuild a team.
You have no clue about football. Pats were built when Brady took over. Steelers were built when Big Ben took over. Seahawks were built when Wilson took over. Packers were built when Rodgers took over. You’re dead wrong buddy. Like really wrong.
and for kicks and giggles. Jets were built when Sanchez took over and we missed the SB two years in a row by one game. lol.
