There will be growing pains this year whether we like it or not. New systems on both sides will have to be learned and a first time HC will make his share of mistakes. The question is do they play better as the season progresses. I don't think it's too much to ask for a playoff contender by 2022 though. By then, there should be a core that is established from the 2020 and 2021 draft classes including a QB that can command the offense. Oh, and Q could very well be a top 5 interior DL.

If there is no visible core in 2022 and the team shows no signs of moving in the right direction, then there will be no doubt that we need a new GM.

Zuniga is going to be given an opportunity this year to play end in a backup role which should help him to develop.

Some picks take 2-3 years to reach potential, if Morgan and Clark don’t make it so be it.

Well, yes and no, I thought you would have appreciated a bit of humour.

They both had promise that promise hasn't gone away and surely it will improve or have a chance to shine with no Gase and a training camp the latter probably more relevant tbh

    Morgan
    https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/james-morgan

3 out of 5 for a 4th round QB with arm talent, sitting and learning (Gase, sigh) was the best place for him, was NYJ the best place for him, probably not but we can but hope.

    Clark
    https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/cameron-clark/aLDqwdepQM

2 out of 5 but a lot of good things said and right at the end, he can be an NFL starter but not in year one (well that was right at least lol)

Another extremely important factor in any successful NFL team is the coaching staff. Unlike the last two operations where I kind of hoped... but deep down inside wasn't very confident. This time, with Saleh and Lafleur is very different. I can't even picture this staff not doing at the very least a "good" job.

And if that is indeed true things will stabilize here quickly.

If we take Wilson he will be my avatar. But not until he is in a Jets uniform.

Isn't Cameron Clark getting a shot at G as of right now?

Zuniga was non existent, he needs to do better.

But yes we need impact from later rounds more consistently... but this is his 2nd draft/FA.

Of those 3, Zuniga has a chance. I think Clark has a chance to be a starting OG for the next 10 years. Morgan could be our backup starting in 2022 or out of the NFL within a few years.

    Would Wilson take number 7?
Glad you like Kenny. One of my favorites. Lives here in Manhattan beach or used to. Years ago he was an assistant coach at one of the top rated private HS. My daughter knew one of the boys in the team. Went to see a game and watched Kenny on the sidelines still throw the best long spiral balls ever.

Let us hope for success. Life is short and we have had plenty of failures.

We should have a good idea of what Douglas ties his fate to after the draft. If his whole goal the entire time was to take a non-quarterback at 2 and he passed up on big trade packages from the 49ers and Eagles and can't find another suitor to move down with then it seems like he fucked up.

Who knows though? Maybe he takes Sewell and Darnold turns it around.

Joe Douglas is on the clock in a way, but he also still has time. This is Year 1 of the Douglas-Saleh regime. Each single move combines over time to make his full vision, so wrong moves can definitely mess it up. He just needs to keep building the roster and make it stronger with each move he makes. We will see a much improved Jets team in 2021. They won't win the Super Bowl, but they will compete week in and week out.

In all forms of fashion and professions you have to be confident it your ability and your ability to deliver results.

Judging JD now after 1 Draft & 2 FA classes is ridiculous. He did do a good job of house cleaning after inheriting the Mac mess, & set us up for long term success & oh by the way he hired new HC R. Saleh who I think is a great pickup. I like the way he only gives 1 year contracts out to players that are not long term players, keeping us in good cap shape for next year. He's also not afraid to pay long term players such as Lawson & c. Davis. This next Draft will be the most important year of his short GM career, BUT I will not say it is make or break for JD. He is the best GM we have had since I have been a Jet fan (since 1965). In Joe I trust!

In addition to looking at the players he drafted, we should also look at players he passed over. Sometimes that's even worse!

JD has been at least an "Average" GM with both success and failure . But overall, Average is way better than Abysmal from Idzik and Mac tbh.

He has bought the groceries for one of the worst HC in NFL history>>Gase. So whose ready to evaluate starting with that? Now there is at least better coaching to level the playing field evaluation of the GMs picks

With Saleh et al. hopefully the stars come together in 2021
