Wilson has all the talent in the world and it showed. I'm not going to rave abt his arm strength and such bcuz the media has that covered. I'm only going to point out the main negative from point of view. He lacks anticipation and timing. Imo even during the scripted plays Wilson was waiting for his WRs to turn or finish their route and then throw. To be fair I watched the first half of his Pro Day. I knew his arm strength and quick release so that did not surprise me. Now looking back at Sam Darnolds Pro Day where he threw in the rain, I believe Sam had a better Pro Day. Obviously I'm no scout, gm etc. But I see Wilson in a Dink and Dunk offense, and having to either take sacks or take off, due to his lack of anticipation and timing of routes. These things can be fixed. Either way I hope JD makes the best decision, and we finally move towards winning the Superbowl
We get Lawrence. I don't think this is going to happen, although I did briefly, but when I was told that Meyer wasn't there today, it means he isn't taking Wilson. But, if he DID, I'd be bummed, even with getting Lawrence.
Don’t forget the Dolphins won 2 games against a bad Jets team and Jacksonville, those are 2 losses next year when Jets beat Dolphins. So a 10 win season starts looking like an 8 win season and a tougher schedule will have them possibly winning 7 games max. We will agree to see things from different perspectives. Depends how you look at it. If objectively hitting on every pick is the deciding factor than no..its never gonna be that way. And i dont even think its who picks the most players draftniks/media like,who addresses the most needs or the perceived most value. Its who can identify the best players/people for their system on a consistent basis to provide roster wide competition,functional play at every position & a few blue chip playmakers along the way. Positional needs are always fluid w Modern FA..its avoiding having needs get to the point where you’re strictly making picks to filll holes and/or start lacking baseline skills like team speed,size,explosion or all of the above.
Yeah you to man. I hope we kick Miami's butt so we can laugh about it. In hindsight Sam's late season 2019 surge against the dregs played us out of a game against Jacksonville in 2020 - which could have secured us the #1 pick this year. Funny how things go.
One of Wilson's strengths is anticipation. Watch his film and you'll often see him throw the ball before receivers even come out of their breaks or turn around. I actually think it might be the thing Wilson does better than any other QB prospect in this draft. Check out this video or any of the QB School videos on Wilson. Tons of throws with anticipation.
I saw some of that too, but IDK how much of this was because of who he was throwing to. In actual games he didn't exhibit this flaw much, if at all. In any case he's going to need to learn to adjust his timing to the NFL speed, and I think this will be part of that process.
I could be wrong, but can't see that happening with Wilson. I'm sure that he will have an adjustment period and a learning curve, and since, like the rest of us, he's not perfect, he will make some mistakes, but I think he is going to be a very good, if not great QB in the NFL. If not, I'll admit I was wrong. I'll give him time to fix whatever issues he has, but if he hasn't then shown significant improvement or progress within a year, then I'll admit that he was the wrong QB. I believe that he will work to fix whatever flaws he has. He won't have them three years later.
I"ve always thought Lawrence was too skinny for his height. That's one of the things I don't like about him.
I disagree with the bold. Legler, ColoradoContrails, I and several others spotted his talent and we all thought he would become a great QB in the NFL. If we could spot it, NFL scouts and GMs should have been able to see it.
Plenty have pointed it out already but in game film, he doesn’t lack anticipation in the slightest. It’s a strength. If the Jets keep Sam, he will be the veteran. They're not dumping Morgan unless he was Hackenberg level bad in practice, and they're not keeping 4 QBs.
Why don't you think it could be Lance? The plan could be to roll with Garappolo one more season and let Lance sit and learn while he works on his flaws. I think it could conceivably be any of the others, but if I was right about the problem with Garappolo being his accuracy and lack of arm strength, it could easily be Fields or Lance, and less so Jones. As for the value of this QB class, it can't be. Don't you know that several posters said this was a "meh" QB class?
I disagree. I don't think the Niners are going to throw their rookie QB to the wolves. Garoppolo is the only QB on their roster at the moment, I believe. I think the plan is to start Garoppalo one more season and let the rookie sit and learn.
Those other picks don't matter. QB is THE most important position, no team wins consistently without a great QB.
Anticipation is an odd thing to criticize about him. Watching his games, the first thing that stood out to me was his outstanding anticipation in most of the situations I saw, from all distances and also during broken plays. Almost gave me the feeling I was watching a veteran at times. There's lots of things that you could pick apart about the guy but that isn't one of them. Calling him a dink and dunk QB, it's like you didn't watch anything.
I can see where Mac Jones would be a great fit in SF's offense - just like he would be in the Jets new offense, but I don't think Jones would've been taken much before #12, if then, so IDK why SF would've felt the need to trade up to get him. That makes me believe they want a guy with a higher ceiling like Fields or Lance.
