I can't believe people are actively complaining about this move. It's one thing to want young guys to play, but it's absolutely ridiculous to complain about the money involved.
I'm not saying you're wrong about the likelihood of a RB being able to play Day One. However, it's a lot cheaper to buy RB depth and draft OL depth than to do the opposite and evidenced by some of the signings involving current/former Jets linemen in free agency.
Some dude posted this a few days ago on here so cudos to him. However chalk up another band aid signing for JD...
A bandaid was necessary. You don’t roll into a season with a 2nd year RB learning a new offense and two career backups then like a third round rookie on top of it.
You're right that RB depth is cheaper than OL depth in FA, but I don't think we need RB depth. We already have 3 RBs on the roster. IMO both Johnson and Adams deserve to stick as both are excellent fits for the new offense. Perine isn't a good fit, but I don't expect JD to cut bait with him before next offseason. We should definitely draft a RB in this draft. IMO this draft is strongest at the following positions: QB, RT, WR, RB and maybe LB. IMO it's almost always wise to draft to the strength of the draft, and so the Jets should take one of each of those in this draft. They also need OG and CB. If I had to drop one of those positions, I guess it would have to be RT, but imo it would be a crying shame, almost a crime, to not take a RT in this strong, deep RT class.
Ya your probably right. He’ll be more valuable in practice helping the guys learn the scheme then on the field.
Eh. I dunno about that. He’ll probably start. He’s easily the best back in the room if healthy. But yes this is much more about what he provides as a mentor than what he’ll do on the field.
We will be drafting our starter 100% If Najee Harris is there at 23 he will be hard to pass on and if Travis Etienne is there at 34 he will also be hard to pass on.
I think we will draft someone that might eventually start. I want Harris badly, but Douglas still has one foot in the mid-2000s so I don’t expect him to even consider it. If we somehow do end up with Harris or Etienne I’ll be ecstatic. I think Perine is a goner regardless.
I hope that you're right. I have nothing against the kid, he's just not that good, and not fast enough for this offense.
He injured his knee week 2 vs the Jets, missed 5 games , returned and reinjured the knee first game back vs Seattle, was dealing with the injury the rest of the year. Wouldn't look to deeply into last season. Injuries forced his return too early twice.
